The steady collapse of Ikurei Conphas's world in the last third or so of TTT, right up the point where Saubon rides out of nowhere and takes his head off. Our introduction to Cnaiur, where his "second soul" possesses him. Some [i:258my7um]fantastic[/i:258my7um] prose and just a great way of establishing the character as a Huge Badass right off the bat. Kellhus making fun of Cnaiur and Proyas. The random Galeoth thane sitting on Xerius's throne. Any time Yalgrota Sranchammer brings the pain. Which is pretty much any time he's in the books. Akka describing the coming of the No-God to Kellhus in TWP. I was expecting something pretty damn sinister, and my expectations were absolutely blown away. Saubon's crazed rant at the end of TWP, where he basically forfeits his soul for his ambition - and then redeems it following Kellhus into battle, in a neat bit of foreshadowing. view post
I have to say, I really liked both Proyas and Saubon - both in terms of the way they were written, and the characters themselves, simultaneously admirable and pitiable. And while I would hate Conphas with a searing passion if I met him, he's a brilliantly drawn portrait of a sociopath. view post
The entire fucking Ikurei family. I would wish horrible punishments upon them, but I cannot imagine a fate worse than living with each other. view post
It's worth noting, for those who missed it in the glossary of TTT, that the names we get in the books are chiefly Ketyai interpretations; for instance, "Coithus" is actually "Koütha" in the original Galeoth, which definitely has more of a Norsirai (read: Anglo-Saxon) ring to it. It'd be interesting to see what some of the other equivalents are.
Now, try and say "Koütha Athjeäri" three times fast.

Oh, I forgot Akka's first battle against the Spires - specifically this paragraph. He struck back with Inference and Abstraction. He was a Mandate Schoolman, a Gnostic Sorcerer-of-the-Rank, a War-Cant Master. He was as a mask held before the sun. And his voice slapped the distances into char and ruin." [i:26pw3lw4]A mask held before the sun.[/i:26pw3lw4] Holy f*cking sh*t. view post
The former. "Horns" is the rumored title of the second book. view post
Basically half the cast of Kingdom of Heaven. To wit: Edward Norton - Kellhus (the greatest actor of our generation. If anyone could pull off that complex and multifaceted a role, it's him.) Brendan Gleeson - Gothyelk (he'd just be playing Reynald de Chatillion again, so why not?) Kevin McKidd - Saubon (certainly a versatile enough actor for the tormented prince.) Jouko Ahola - Yalgrota (the huge Saxon who gets three arrows in him and continues to slaughter people until he keels over. Not [i:29tkrfvg]inhumanly[/i:29tkrfvg] big, but bulky and scary-looking enough for camera tricks to work.) Khaled Nabawy - Fanayal (all kinds of intense as the Arabic mullah, and young enough for the role.) And tossing out the idea of Ciaran Hinds (Caesar in Rome) for Akka. I've always envisioned him as swarthy but not black, and Hinds has passed for that well enough in other roles; more importantly, he's a stellar actor. view post
I'm pretty sure the Scarlet Spires are just batshit paranoid. view post
"Demon! [i:uipk7jwv]Demon[/i:uipk7jwv]! For a thousand years! F&cking your wives! Strangling your children! Striking down your fathers! For a thousand years I have stalked you!" Cnaiur urs Skiotha - the most CAPS LOCK man alive. view post
