I've just finished reading the UK edition, and it didn't have any appendices apart from the faction guide and the maps. Is this something that was chopped out of the UK edition? I don't remember hearing/reading anything about the Inchoroi at all... :( view post

Is the No-God a Nonman? posted 13 Jun 2004, 10:06 in Author Q & AIs the No-God a Nonman? by Scytale, Commoner

Hi, Great book! The socio-political climate reminded me a lot of Dune, and for once someone has actually thought of the consequences of the power of magic, and built in a system of checks to make sure the world isn't totally dominated by its practitioners. Without Chorae every battle would end like the Scylvendi defeat and there would be no need for soldiers! Anyway, on to my question. Was/is Mog Pharau a Nonman, or is he/she/it something more or less? Also, I just mentioned this on the tale end of someone elses thread, but is the UK edition of the book missing any appendices? Cheers, Scytale view post

Languages of Earwa posted 14 Jun 2004, 20:06 in Author Q & AIs the No-God a Nonman? by Scytale, Commoner

Fair enough. I suppose you would have said in the book if you'd wanted us to know! Always worth a try though! ;) As for the 'Languages of Earwa' appendix, how long is it? I've just pre-ordered The Warrior-Prophet from (I couldn't be bothered to wait until November for the UK version - i'm already waiting for A Feast For Crows and The Bonehunters - I mean damn, Steven Erickson has had 3 months to get the next Malazan book out, what's the hold up?) so now my covers will be out of sync! :( Anyway, if the Appendix is a few pages long, I might be convinced to add a copy of the Canadian TDtcB to my order to maintain 'book shelf consistency' (a rubbish excure, but i'm really good at listening to 'The Darkness that Comes Before' and convincing myself to buy stuff). I've just noticed that ETA has gone back to 8-10 days on now... it was showing 2-3. days. Damn! Oh, one more thing - will all of your books (including further series' set in the same world) occur within the same locale (i.e. Three Seas, Ancient North) or will you have events occuring on other continents like Erickson and Martin? Also, what kind of time scale is TTT looking like? Can I buy a copy of your old version? ;) I really hate waiting for stuff! :( view post

One more thing... is the Warrior-Prophet being released in Hardback? The entry on is ambiguous, and only lists a paperback. view post

The appearance of the Sranc? posted 22 Jun 2004, 22:06 in Author Q & AThe appearance of the Sranc? by Scytale, Commoner

Hi Scott, We came across a few Sranc in The Darkness that comes Before, but I can't recall if we're given any hint about what they look like, excepting the fact that they leave an unusual print in the snow. I'm currently half way through The Warror Prophet - damn, Kellhus is an interesting character! - and the character of Sranchammer and his shruken Sranc heads has come up a few times. Can you give us an idea about what the Sranc look like? I've got it into my head that they're kind of reptillian looking, but I have no idea why. Are you able to elaborate on their general appearance? Also, this one's probably a no-go area (seeing as we've currently met only one), but can you gives us an idea about what Nonmen look like? Finally, any chance you can get TTT out soon? Waiting the best part of a year to find out what happens is going to be a nightmare! :( view post
