Od Magic - Patricia A. McKillip posted 22 Jul 2005, 14:07 by Scilvenas, Auditor

This is standard McKillip. Good, just how you'd expect. In fact, that's the only bad thing you can say about the book. There's no real tragic turn of events, nothing all that painful. Everything gets resolved nicely, giving you warm fuzzies. There are a lot of character POVs. The story follows a gardener who's asked by a great, mysterious wizardess to come work at her school. The antagonist is a young, well-intentioned if too serious wizard who is the counselor to the king, a bit of a McCarthy figure who suspects the gardner is involved in an ominous plot. It ends up being a quaint little homily about the dangers of setting bounds on creativity/freedom of expression in the pursuit of national security. 7.5/10 view post
