Seems like the majority of people who post here are into Metal, or at least prog rock, which I find interesting. Does it go with the literature, or is it just that people are more passionate about that sort of music?[/quote:1474g9ol]

ya, that's weird. i know A LOT of fantasy fans who are metalheads.. in fact i met my husband at a kreator show by trading fantasy books.. when he gave me the darkness that comes before to read, i knew it was love view post

Can we really tell history "as it was"? posted 25 April 2006 in Philosophy DiscussionCan we really tell history "as it was"? by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

i believe primal was responding to grantaires post about how we cannot understand history completely because we could never understand the mentality that those people in the past would have had. he's basically saying that we, in a such a highly evolved and technical society we couldn't, but in many parts of the world there really hasn;t been much change throughout centuries. there are people who still build a shack for their family and grow crops and keep livestock, in the very same way that they would have 1000 years ago. looking at these people today would make it much easier to understand how people back then would have been. view post

List 'Em - Bands posted 26 April 2006 in Off-Topic DiscussionList 'Em - Bands by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

haha no, we started talkin on a metal board and just decided to trade some books...

i dunno what the correllation is.. except for myself. i like folky, epic black metal, which often has very fantastic elements in its music and lyrics..

conversely i like a lot of gory death metal, which helps to appreciate the war scenes..

ok, i'm just pullin stuff outta my ass now.. view post

Your favourite character? posted 01 May 2006 in The Darkness That Comes BeforeYour favourite character? by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

i feel almost cliched saying esmenet, being a woman myself it seems like the obvious choice. however, i really did find her interesting, mostly because i can see many people i know in her. i have several friends who are involved in the "sex trade" and it's weird, cos i can see so many similarities.

i don;t know quite how to explain this any deeper, and there are other reasons..

i guess as a kid i was told to be girly and do girly things, and i never wanted to. i always wanted to play with tools and build tree forts and shit. so i guess to see someone defy men.. i dunno..

*edit. while i identify most with esmenet, my favorite character was cnaiur.

i could be his proof any day view post

Who is most offensive. posted 03 May 2006 in Literature DiscussionWho is most offensive. by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

i haven't read anything by any of those authors..

but i wouldn't say PoN is offensive at all.. look back hundreds of years ago, and that's pretty much what society was like for us (minus the sorcery and the sranc, of course). that is simply what people did. if it's offensive, than so is history. view post

actually, he said we know they aren't sterile because the anasurimbor line comes from men and nonmen breeding... view post

what kind of hat would akka wear? posted 18 May 2006 in Off-Topic Discussionwhat kind of hat would akka wear? by gierra, Sorcerer-of-Rank

i see him as being dressed in a ratty tunic, tied around the waist with rope or something.. no hat, pretty much like curethan said, with short cropped hair that is thinning a bit.

if anything he might have a hooded cloak or something. view post

glenfiddich is scotch whisky. and it's not even very good as far as scotch goes.

i'm not a big beer fan, but i like stouts. st. ambroise oatmeal stout is great. fizzy yellow beer is not for me. view post
