I'm new to the forum and your books, I just bought TDTCB June 1st and haven't found the time to read it. I'm finishing up Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon and hope to start Erickson's Garden's of the Moon and from there read Chine Mieville's Perdido Street Station. Then I will start TDTCB <!-- s:oops: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt="" title="Embarassed" /><!-- s:oops: --> .

Anyways, I was wondering what your opinion was (if you have one) on Stphenson or Mieville. Especially China Mieville, who seems to be causing a stir in the genre. view post

First Word that Comes to Mind posted 05 June 2004 in Off-Topic DiscussionFirst Word that Comes to Mind by casterlyrock, Commoner

In the tradition of forum games, here is the classic "What's the first word that comes to mind" game.

The game is pretty self explanatory. Someone starts off and posts a word, then the next poster posts the first word that comes to mind when they read the original word. It then plays off that new word and so on.

There is just one rule: you can only post one word, not whole sentences

Heres the starting word: prince view post

Now Reading... posted 05 June 2004 in Off-Topic DiscussionNow Reading... by casterlyrock, Commoner

I am shocked that no one has mention GRRM's aSoIaF. He is the king of the genre IMO. Read all three of his books and patiently waiting for aFfC.

The Baroque Cycle is great but if you haven't read Cryptnomicon, you are missing out, it's Stephenson's magnum opus. view post

Yes, I was also extremely dissapointed in the American GotM cover. It looks like some trashy supermarket romance novel.

Those guys over in the UK though, they got a cool cover. It's not something I would stop and look at if I was walking down the asile in my bookstore, it took me a few seconds to get used to it, but there is somehing about it that makes it one of the best covers I've ever seen. My thought process when I first saw it on Amazon UK was something like "Wow that cover kinda su Hmmmm, thats pretty cool." view post

What about Thomas Pynchon? I came across a great hard-covered edition of his Mason &amp; Dixon for $6, and knowing that he wrote Gravity's Rainbow and V, bought it.

Just wondering what you think of him. view post
