And practically all of Bakker's characters lack humor.

WHAT!?!?!?!???!

There is so much humor in the books that I cannot even begin to express my shock at your words. Almost all of the characters have some form of humor. view post

Im still looking for specific passages, however there are more than a few non-pillow talk moments between Esmi and Akka as well as between Esmi and others. view post

In twenty years Achamians going to be pretty old, at least sixty
(I always thought of him being around 40) . And in those days (by those days i mean the middle ages which is pretty much where the threeseas are technology-wise.) thats pretty old.

Plus it calls his goal of seeking the Dunyain, a "mad" quest. So i kindof picture him as this crazy old man. Its sorta sad though because he was my favorite character and basically was screwed (can i say that?) over in Prince of Nothing. I really want him to get his revenge... or something. He deserves it.[/quote:7p5yz49p]

Yes you can say screwed, as for Akka I think hes not going to be a crazy old man, but more of a cold determined old man, as for his age I think he'll manage even in his 60s. And I think hes going to get exactly what he wants or something very close to it. view post

This is from the official prince of nothing website and I am assuming they mean at the start of PoN so he should be a bit older. view post

I'm wondering where Achamians mad quest will take him. At some point Zeum needs to be tied in to the story so perhaps he will end up there. Though I am unclear how that area could have anything to do with origins of the Dunyain.
There is the abandned Noman mansion (sorry can't remeber the name) which needs to be tied in as well in some way (Scott says he has something feundish planned for it) so perhaps Achamian will go skulking around there and find something he shouldn't.[/quote:to85zrg5]

Im thinking we will see Akka either ending up in Atrithau, or in Scylvendi land, namely Utemot land, I seem to recall a certain mention of one of Cnauir's daughters in the Glossary of TfT, so I believe she will tie into the story in some way. However either way I believe Akka will eventually go there seeing as its a better place than any to start. view post

I don't really dislike Obama per say, I just don't like many of his policies, mainly on Iraq and other foreign policies, besides that he sort of just creeps me out, but in reality I could live with him being president. As for Canada I don't know, but its gotta be better than if Hilary wins the candidacy. view post

I could not find the good article but I would say this one suffices despite leaving out some of the actual numbers [url:jbtm5ysj]http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2006-08-09-gore-green_x.htm.[/url:jbtm5ysj]

I do applaud him for getting Global Warming attention, but it seems to me it is more of a stunt for popularity, and the article shows that he is a bit of a hypocrite. view post

The only real evidence i have to support this are the vision and voices he hears. As well as the prophecy he makes. He knows he will die assasinated ( im guessing by Druass) and that his son will take over the battle against the no-God.

As for serwe. She was just delusional.[/quote:3itojhjd]

Hmm, a prophecy that Kellhus makes? I completely forgot that or i didnt read those pages well enough to understand that. Could you explain or point me to the scene/page?[/quote:3itojhjd]

I overlooked this post, however coming back to it now I must also reread the section, however if we are thinking of the same scene I believe it was not a Prophecy but rather he saw the possibility that he could die, via Probability trance, but then again you may be referring to a completely diffeent scene. view post

The only person that could probably defeat Kellhus, is someone from the Dune series, whether it be the Bene Gesserit, a mentat, Paul Muad'Dib, or one of his various descendants, in a universe where manipulation is everyone's game and nearly everyone is a super genius he would be doomed view post

Ha, maybe we should give him that title.

Anyway back on topic, Akka, as I stated previously, will likely be a fiercely determined old man bent on revenge and the truth behind the entire matter, in the end however I think he will be the key in stopping the No-God. view post

....he completely buys into the notion that everybody else is just sacrificial animal, whose lives are totally worthless.

I disagree, he simply tells himself and others, these things to try and convince himself that they are true, Cnauir maybe completely insane but its only because he lives a lifestyle that he knows he does not agree with.

Cnauir's story can be summed up in two words "Inner Conflict". view post

Just out of curiousity Scott, do you have any knowledge of religion? I noticed you used a lot of interesting terms that you wouldn't come across everyday and you seem to have some knowledge about Scripture, prophecy, apostasy, and gnosticism among other things. Do you know anything about the Bible or it's history? And do you hold to any religion yourself? These questions may be somewhat personal, but I am just curious because I found your first book fascinating, and I bought the second one yesterday. I grew up in Woodstock, ON, not far from London and I am attending a one year Bible course, so many things in your books interest me.[/quote:fd2w3z9y]

Somewhere on the board I believe Scott has told us he is Agnostic, search around somewhat and I'm sure you could find his explanation on his beliefs.

Edit: Found it for you.

I'm an agnostic with a yen for the mysterium tremendum. When people ask me if I believe there's such a thing as God, I tell them I'm having a hard enough time believing there's such a thing as meaning.[/quote:fd2w3z9y]

the bible is the solution posted 15 May 2007 in Philosophy Discussionthe bible is the solution by Warrior-Poet, Moderator

out of ignorance could someone tell me how the Torah is different than the Old Testament. Or atleast show me a link or a comparative book I could buy.

I'm no expert, but I believe the Torah consists of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy sometimes called the 5 Books of Moses, now if we were comparing the complete Hebrew Bible or Tanakh(sp?) to the Old Testament I think that might be where the differences occur. From what I am told the Torah is only the first part of the Hebrew Bible.

Correct me if I am wrong. view post
