What happens when your soul leaves your body? posted 11 October 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionWhat happens when your soul leaves your body? by Lucimay, Subdidact

i said this in an earlier post on this tread;

and...honestly...i don't WANT to cease to be.

i've been thinking on it some more. i've decided i don't really care what happens when i die. there's no way for me to know and i get very very anxious constantly monitoring my own behavior so as not to make bad karma or get demerits in the big book or whatever. i feel better if i don't wonder about it. (ignorance is bliss right) in truth, i would just like to be a better person while i'm here. afterward, well, we'll see what we see when we see it. view post

As for Cnaiur - well let's just say that things start to get interesting in TTT. What makes him unconquerable are all the ways he's been conquered.

LOVEly!! i soooo like this guy. if i had to choose a favorite character, i DEFinitly like Cnaiur. cool name too. the character i least expected to understand feels like the one i understand the best. I actually put quite a bit of thought into my villains

(does that make sense?) they are revelatory types hell-bent on SHOWing the reader who they are. i gotta tell you...that black "seed" really got me!!! view post

Movies...? posted 23 October 2005 in Off-Topic DiscussionMovies...? by Lucimay, Subdidact

well, Premonition was only ok.

but i went to see Elizabethtown last night. loved it. you might have to be either a Cameron Crowe fan or FROM kentucky to like it, tho.
Crowe has his own brand of humor and this film is FILLED with it. i alternately laughed and wept. wept because it's been nearly 7 years since i've been home to kentucky and Crowe brilliantly portrays the simple beauty of the place. Bloom and Dunst were also very very good. i have to admit, i just love Dunst. she's just fun to watch in this film. Susan Sarandon is very Susan Sarandon and also fun as Bloom's west coast crazy mother. If you liked Almost Famous, Singles, or Jerry Maguire, you will probably like this movie. (the love story plotline might put this film in the "chick flick" genre but Crowe's hilarious sense of humor redeems it!!)
And folks, people really are like this in kentucky!!!! yes indeedy! view post

Cu'jara:

It seems clear that we should do either one of two things: regulate the technologies and techniques used, or effectively (and all the weight falls on this word) educate consumers

REGULATE?? in the US?? heh. you used the R-word!!!!!! the Right won't want to regulate as they want control and money, the Left won't want to regulate as it will be some sort of infringement on SOMEbody's SOMEthing!

regulate or educate. hmphf. good luck.

entropic_existence says:

I found Achamian pretty likeable myself, but then again I have an inherent liking for flawed characters.

i'm the same. i found ALL the characters "likable" for that very reason. they are complex characters, not flat or one dimensional. that doesn't mean they are all EMPATHETIC characters. they're not. nor should they be.

i read A LOT of fiction. i disagree that sci-fi and fantasy lack "emotional punch". that's a broad, sweeping generalization. Bakker, Erikson, Tolkien, Wolfe, Gibson, Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, LeGuin, Gaiman, McCaffery, Farmer, Dick, Lem, Lethem...i could go on an on for a long time. a long long list of writers in the sci-fi fantasy genre who write with a LOT of "emotional punch". lucimay's grand pronouncement on the genre lacking emotional depth. pure bull hockey. hooey. view post
