ok...no girls since february '05 or did everyone just stop giving a hoot?

i'm only resurrecting this because i was beginning to wonder myself if there were any women here!!!!
and also to repudiate some one's opinion ( in a couple of different threads by the way) that bakker HASN'T written strong or interesting female characters!!
Esmenet, Serwe, and particularly the Empress (who i find to be just the best kind of scary mommy!) . All strong women. the whiney weak women in Darkness get killed, just like the whiney weak men!!! of course things may happen to these three women in WP that I'm not aware of since i'm just finishing Darkness.
or maybe we just have different definitions of "strong. view post

Easy = wrong? posted 28 July 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionEasy = wrong? by Lucimay, Subdidact

its true about smart lazy people!!!!

my mate is the smartest laziest man i know and he has taken 2 full time jobs (we work at the same company), i mean it now, two jobs that used to belong to two separate people and took both these other people 40 hours a week to do and made one PART time job of it!!!! honestly, he will even take on extra projects for other people in the office just to help out and by god still only works about 32 hours a week. (ok, i'm leaving now, see ya at home!, i hate him!)

now he claims those other two people just knew how to LOOK busy, but I know those other two people whose jobs he took and I KNOW neither of them were smart enought to look THAT busy!!!!!

question about achamian? posted 29 July 2005 in The Warrior Prophetquestion about achamian? by Lucimay, Subdidact

I'm only halfway thru Warrior Prophet right now so you may be making references to scenes I haven't read yet but here's where my thinking is going...

there is something vaguely "Haruchi" (if I can make that metaphor) about Kelhus, what I mean, I guess, is that he seems sociopathically set in his course (whatever THAT is!!)...way more so than Cnaiur( whose passion seems to be Kelhus' polar opposite) and I'm fairly certain that he's not gunning for daddy. it's just what he has used to ensnare Cnaiur because he knows that's what Cnaiur is about. he's always concerned with how much power Moenghus has acquired during his 30 years "in the world." and that makes me think there might be some kind of father/son showdown in the next book which may result in Moenghus' death, but I think there are things Kelhus will want to get from Moenghus before that happens.

regarding telepathy...it seems to me that the longer Kelhus is engaged with someone (Cnaiur, Serwe, etc) on a one-on-one basis, the closer his "reading" of them borders on telepathy, it's like he's boring a hole through their skulls into their conciousness which eventually leads to communication.
does that sound whacky? view post

question about achamian? posted 29 July 2005 in The Warrior Prophetquestion about achamian? by Lucimay, Subdidact

oh, and I definately DO think Kelhus will acquire the Gnosis but I'm not sure Achamian will be the source. i agree with Kelhus that Achamian has more power than even Achamian himself knows. maybe that's just wishful thinking but I just don't WANT Achamian to be the source!! hahaha! view post

kellhus == good guy?? posted 29 July 2005 in The Darkness That Comes Beforekellhus == good guy?? by Lucimay, Subdidact

good evil black white

this doesn't enter into this story for me. i suspend disbelief when i read. i don't judge "the world of the play". i become immersed.

i think this discussion is going on because of the complexity of the characters in this story. nobody is all good or all bad. we see things that are likable about Xerius (or at least pitiable) and unlikable about Kelhus.
i am truly surprised at a lot of the reactions to Cnaiur. i find him to be the most intriguing kind of interesting. (but then I always go for the most dangerous guys!!hahahah!)

if i had to choose which tent to sleep in, i'd be in Cnaiur's tent as opposed to Kelhus'. violence is honest. it's up front. understandable. for me, easier to deal with than that sneaky stuff that Kelhus is up to. view post

kellhus == good guy?? posted 29 July 2005 in The Darkness That Comes Beforekellhus == good guy?? by Lucimay, Subdidact

weelll...i'm not saying rape is preferable
i'm just saying that Cnaiur is more up front and Kelhus is slimier and possibly MORE dangerous. losing your innocence is one thing, losing your soul is quite another.

i didn't mean to spin off into a tangent, tho'. i only meant to say that i don't think either Kelhus or Cnaiur are "evil" or "good".

and if you asked me which one of these two characters is actually capable of love (i.e. which one actually LOVES Serwe) i'd still have to say Cnaiur, Kelhus seems concienceless and therefore more CAPABLE of greater "evil." of course, it remains to be seen, doesn't it. view post

scott, you're so good to actually entertain answering this "thought-provoking" thread!!!!

actually, since the challenge began to come up with more metaphors i've been wracking my brain trying to think of something BETTER than "peach" but, whatever the genesis of the idea, it's perfect and lovely. shows a true appreciation which is much appreciated by at least this particular female fan of the books!!

regarding posting the cover, couldn't you do it with a url? view post

kellhus == good guy?? posted 29 July 2005 in The Darkness That Comes Beforekellhus == good guy?? by Lucimay, Subdidact

i capitulate! you like kelhus better. that's cool.

we all get what we get from a story, no matter the author's intent

it's better for me if the waters are a bit muddy, the experience is better, i have to think more, decide how what i am reading is making me feel because if the story is well-told, it's going to make me feel SOMETHING.
and in THIS particular story, one of the most intriguing (there i go with that word again) aspects is the complexity of the characters. not just caricatures of barbarians and noble knights. real people in bizarre circumstances.
AND i am glad now, to be having a conversation about the story, so thank you! (i had just, for the past week, been browsing around the forum and chatting about whatever, just to get acclimated!! ) view post

The Few and Kellhus posted 30 July 2005 in The Warrior ProphetThe Few and Kellhus by Lucimay, Subdidact

i don't know that there IS a right or wrong ( i seem to be taking this position a lot lately!!)

i can see the analogies you're drawing however, i wasn't going there with Kelhus because too many characters have too often said "Sweet Sejenus" which, to me, is the same as saying Sweet Jesus! So...I equated Inri Sejenus with a Christ-figure, stupidly enough!!

you're probably on the right track tho', especially given the fact that Kelhus is thirty-three years old!!!!! (messiah death age, kinda like rock n roll death age is 27!! Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Kobain, etc)

regarding nilihism...i had to look it up to get an articulated definition and found a good quote that sums up my impression of nilihism,

"A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy." (the internet encyclopedia of philosophy)

so, if that's the case, I don't think Mandate Schoolmen are nihilists.

not carved in granite, tho. just my opinion view post

exactly!! inbreeding. there WILL be failures!! i assumed as much the minute i "entered" the face room.

(there's an excelled novel by Parke Godwin and Marvin Kaye called Wintermind which your discussion put me in mind of, the idea of the genetic anomalies--it's an unfinished trilogy actually, Masters of Solitude, Wintermind, but no third book--i read it years ago)

and i'm curious Tattooed Hand, did anything ever come of your discussion on Kelhus' mother? i browsed that discussion but didn't read the whole thing so don't know if you ever got any answers to that. view post
