Will Esmi Cause Mandati/Warrior-Prophet Drama? posted 24 August 2006 in The Thousandfold ThoughtWill Esmi Cause Mandati/Warrior-Prophet Drama? by Harrol, Moderator

After reading half of TTT, I am beginning to take back all the nice things I said about Esmi previously. I wanted to believe that she was not the object of Bakker's female bashing and I still want to believe that she made the best choice when she chooses to stay with Kellhus, but I am also disappointed in her.

And here I thought Ikurei Istriya was the object of Scott's female bashing <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> I do not think there is anything wrong with Esmi. I only wish that more people had her kind of strength to keep going on and doing what must be done. view post

We all realize that these characters are fake, but yet I have met people who in some fashion closely resemble Serwe a simple woman that wants some sort of importance and meaning in her life. I also know people like Esmi intelligent, a form of their own strength, but yet falible and all too human. I have met very few people that have the cunning coldness of Istiya and none that have all her qualities. view post

I have tried to get into the first book of the Thomas Covenant series but the pacing is killing me. So is the part where he raped the girl that was helping him and then appears to think nothing of it. view post

You raise a good point about Esmi reaching a higher level of freedom as Kellhus' wife. I still fear that she will be limited in her status and just become another pawn in his plans.

That is true. A very useful and powerful chess piece but still just a piece on the board. What did Akka say? He stated that Kellhus can not be possessed but that he possesses. Kellhus can not help but make a tool of all. view post

ignorance or enlightenment ? posted 25 August 2006 in Philosophy Discussionignorance or enlightenment ? by Harrol, Moderator

Now if Karma is effective, then suffering will be fully returned to its creator. But it's possible that Karma is not effective; that someone can do harm but not have it returned upon themselves, or receive the suffering only in part.

I believe the law of what goes around comes around is in full effect. view post

Perceptions of Reality posted 25 August 2006 in Philosophy DiscussionPerceptions of Reality by Harrol, Moderator

Well certainly with out some sort of truth or reality then science is impossible to have. For example you can not have a measurement without a reference I am not a scientist but I work on their lab equipment and I know a lot of their findings in some way comes from what they can measure and reference. Without some form of truth and reality then what do we as people have to go by? view post

Akka posted 05 September 2006 in The Thousandfold ThoughtAkka by Harrol, Moderator

There is no one antagonist in this story. You have the consult, the No-God and Kellhus who can argueably be protagonists. Akka is a very human individual in fact his personality and how he feels about peopl seems very similar to Seswatha in the dreams. There are differences though, like Seswatha was politically astute where as Akka is inept because he tries to hard. Now that Akka has nothing to try so hard for he may become a master at Benjaku and therefore serve many purposes. As for turning to the consult? I doubt it. Akka will become the source of their nightmares they will scream his name in dread as his form becomes the incarnation of Seswatha on the battlefield. In TTT Akka even marvels at what he did to the Scarlet Spires because Seswatha took over in some form. Why is Seswatha so dominant in Akka and not the rest of the Mandate? I belive it is due to a kindred spirit and deeply similar motivations that go beyond simply hating the Consult. view post
