And now for something totally idiotic - BK v McDonalds posted 31 May 2005 in Off-Topic DiscussionAnd now for something totally idiotic - BK v McDonalds by Deerow, Auditor

I'm not a big fast food fan either...but I like McD's breakfast every once in awhile...say, once every 12 months or so.

Wendy's is okay though.

I probably eat more Subway than anything else. That Jarrod is a lying bastard. view post

A question about the Prologue posted 01 June 2005 in Writing TipsA question about the Prologue by Deerow, Auditor

Well I know with TDtCB I was looking forward to Kellhus appearing again. Every time there was a character who was walking out of the shadows I was thinking "Is it Kellhus?" In that way I found it to be acceptable because I liked Kellhus as a character from the get go and wanted to see him return to action again.

Furthermore it felt more like a prologue as it set up a character that didn't return until much later (thus the reader could connect with that character instantly as opposed to having to get to know a whole new character). Whereas a prologue that discussed Achamian and then just moved on the chapter one and centered around him wouldn't have been as intriguing (IMO).

Essentially I don't think it really matters, the object of the prologue is simply to introduce the reader to your world and give some background on the goings-on. Whether you introduce your main character right away or introduce a character who will be absent for a period of time (probably more than half the book in the case of Kellhus) the main purpose is to grip the reader and have them stick with the novel no matter how long it takes to see the characters introduced. view post

Yeah I liked this movie a lot...saw it three times in theatres I think.

Anyway. Anyone know when/if it will come out on DVD over here? dubbed? subbed?

Thanks. view post

What subgroup of speculative fiction do you prefer? posted 03 June 2005 in Literature DiscussionWhat subgroup of speculative fiction do you prefer? by Deerow, Auditor

I'm a little scattered to be honest.

I enjoy a good fantasy novel (obviously, or I wouldn't be on these forums) but also enjoy a bit of sci-fi, plenty of fiction and some Stephen King (namely the Dark Tower series which is, more or less, fantasy...but other things as well).

Also a bit of a Gaiman fan. Whether it is his novels (fantasy I suppose) or his graphic novels. view post

Indeed...one thing I wonder is if Xerius' mother favors Conphas, why not move to secure Conphas as the reigning emporer? She did the same to secure the position for Xerius' III did she not? view post

Do you believe a God exists? posted 08 June 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionDo you believe a God exists? by Deerow, Auditor

I'm sort of inbetween. On the one hand I hope there is more to life than there is...but just because I want it to be true doesn't necessarily make it so (well, you could probably argue that it does).

So...basically, I contribute nothing.

Have a good day. view post

Holy war: the ultimate blasphemy posted 08 June 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionHoly war: the ultimate blasphemy by Deerow, Auditor

I agree. War is essentially the antithesis of anything considered "Holy." I don't think anyone can actually critically examine what they are doing in such cases and come out with the contention that what they are doing truly is holy. But I guess that is part of the problem. Some people are easily lead (the Inrithi are a perfect example...they were hyped for their war before they even knew who it was against!). view post

Orson Scott Card and Homosexual Marriage posted 08 June 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionOrson Scott Card and Homosexual Marriage by Deerow, Auditor

To be honest I haven't read a lot of what was written...but I'll give my two cents anyways...

I say let same-sex couples get married. How does it impact your life in any way? It could mean a world of difference to that couple. I agree that a church or other place of worship should not be forced to wed homosexual couples because it goes against the beliefs of that institution.

I can't tolerate people who either push their prejudices or religious beliefs onto others. view post

The importance of being Kellhus posted 14 June 2005 in Author Q & AThe importance of being Kellhus by Deerow, Auditor

Yeah I would agree with what has been said. When describing the book to some friends they wanted to know a bit about the characters and I started talking, in very general terms of course, about some of Kellhus' actions...and they said he sounded like the worst "hero" ever...but somehow it seems like he can be forgiven for actions that if performed by another character would seem outright despicable. view post

And now for something totally idiotic - BK v McDonalds posted 15 June 2005 in Off-Topic DiscussionAnd now for something totally idiotic - BK v McDonalds by Deerow, Auditor

I know some Americans visit the boards here so I just wanted to ask something. I was recently in L.A. and went to McDs a handful of times (couldn't afford anything else...although CPK is amazing...but I digress) and didn't see anything like salads, yogurt parfaits, or toasted sandwiches...do they exist in the states? Or was I just in a really shitty McDonalds?

Just wondering because they are pushing that shit pretty hard up here.

*Btw, my girlfriend is American but lives in Vermont...so I don't think there is a McDonald's anywhere near her...just sheep and cows * view post

Psukhe vs The Gnosis posted 16 June 2005 in Author Q & APsukhe vs The Gnosis by Deerow, Auditor

Well the simple fact that it cannot be seen by the few grants it a massive advantage right away. While blow for blow it may not be as powerful as the Gnosis, or even the Anagogic sorcery, that one difference grants the Psukhe an edge that could push it about the Anagogic sorcery and maybe even close to Gnosis sorcery.

But this is the "Author Q & A" so I think we all know who is the best person to answer this question view post
