interesting questions and answers posted here...

grasping the idea of good and evil, thinks I, defeats what is transpiring here.the question should be...

are these characters being true to their natures?

good and evil aside all actions of any sentinent being must be measured and weighed against the nature of that being whatever the cause of nature

do any of you view the doll in the second book as evil?

are the characters acting within or without the bounds of their nature as we understanf it to be?

there lies your good and evil I think. view post

The Logos/Dunyain posted 20 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtThe Logos/Dunyain by diarmuid, Peralogue

it seems to me that there is, here, an uneeded distinction between the natural and sorcery.

view sorcery as merely the understanding of more in our world and a vein of different knowledge and suddenly the Logos must be that...but at the same time is not

perhaps the few are simply those gifted with no more than an ability for a certain type of thought

much like air force pilots must think in dimensions of up and down as well as n,s,e,w.....

perhaps there is no deliniation between the natural and supernatural

save for knowledge and the ability to grasp it view post

Some Random Thoughts on TTT posted 20 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtSome Random Thoughts on TTT by diarmuid, Peralogue

i think it is important to remember that Esmi is a whore

so the betrayal of Akka cannot be founded on the physical act

the mental betrayl is far greater but I beleive the roots of our outcries rest in the physical

and perhaps Ser Bakker would have it so.......... view post

Some Random Thoughts on TTT posted 21 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtSome Random Thoughts on TTT by diarmuid, Peralogue

no...not nothing of course

but perhaps less of a high water mark than others would think

perhaps her actual self, in body, is more of an easy way to give comfort

i beleive her mind is the thing in this story...and that she seems to only have "given" to Akka

perhaps therin her virginity lies? view post

Things I will not accept in an argument posted 21 May 2005 in Philosophy DiscussionThings I will not accept in an argument by diarmuid, Peralogue

nothing can be more frustrating than the closed mind

those that "know what they know"

or assume that your lack of expertise in a given set of circumstances somehow denotes a general and all encompassing lack of knowledge

give some cedit to the life of people I say view post

seems to me that "popularity" for want of a better word, is probably quietly building as we speak.

person to person, she told two friends, and so on.

calling the group here at this board, the active ones at least, a group of say.......50 ppl.

llok at that group after a couple of exponential events and you have something like ...wel....alot anyway.

Scott as per your sucess I have no doubts of ANY kind....I just think it is gonna take some time fella. Same for most bands of any skill at all, ditto singers, ditto artists.

However, a talent like yours will not be silent.

Now write another book, swiftly, lest I grow wroth! view post

Achamian vs. Kellhus: faith vs. certainty posted 21 May 2005 in The Warrior ProphetAchamian vs. Kellhus: faith vs. certainty by diarmuid, Peralogue

Quote: "matthewcreelman":9x7kkfzg

At the core of TWP it's a conflict of doubt and faith. Achamian is a creature of doubt; Kellhus is a creature of certainty. Kellhus has absolute certainty in his own abilities, whereas Achamian worries constantly. More importantly, Kellhus creates a belief that inspires solid certainty in people, whereas Achamian spreads a faith that inspires only doubt. [/quote:9x7kkfzg]

I don't know that fatih and certainty are really opposite...certainty..is based on knowledge..which is stself anchored by the possibly mistaken certainty that you are wrong about what you know..

While faith seems to be the beleif of and in something in the abscence of knowledge or facts

Quote: "matthewcreelman":9x7kkfzg
Just look at the decline of Esmenet as an example of what he can do to people. For someone who follows Kellhus, “I understand” is the key term.

[/quote:9x7kkfzg]

i disagree that Esmi is declining...i think she is becoming something much more than herself. view post

Some Random Thoughts on TTT posted 22 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtSome Random Thoughts on TTT by diarmuid, Peralogue

awesome points

also...for it to really have been a betrayal i think we need to assume that Esmi saw Kellhus as a replacement, an equal one, for Akka.

And I am in no way ready to o.k. that assumption.

Likely, her intelligence (which I think we all agree is pretty fierce), views the two of them as totally different animals.

And perhaps (this is a shot in the dark here) Kellhus has managed to focus Akka once more on the very real problems in the world instead of losing himself in domestic bliss.

Faith and fervour need an impetus and hate is a fuel like any other, if a little more combustible than love. view post

The Logos/Dunyain posted 23 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtThe Logos/Dunyain by diarmuid, Peralogue

hmm good points.

however, if the few can see the "bruise" or mark of sorcery as affecting nature..or what is natural

could not it be argued that their specialized knowledge and studies have led them to simply be more sensitive to those things that occur in the "natural" world?

consider "supernatural" better than, yes. beyond the natural , yes

but not nesc. totally apart from natural.

As for other Fantasy series and books.....

Guy Kay tends to treat magic thus.

David Eddings, in my youth, seemed to be exploring along these lines as well.

Anyway, good arguments all around. Makes for an interesting debate and I would invite all interested parties to join in.

Maybe even the Author?

Course I am betting he knows more than we. view post

Bad, bad book. BAAAD. posted 23 May 2005 in Off-Topic DiscussionBad, bad book. BAAAD. by diarmuid, Peralogue

WoT..WoT..Wot

could there be a bigger dissapointment?

and I know earlier in the thread someone made mention of the scale of the thing contributing to the absolute rubbish that was CoT but really...

If it is that lame for that long...no matter what the scope of the tale has not the writer in some way failed?

At any rate, I , like so many others will finish the series...

If for no other reason than out of a sense of work ehtic.

Also David Eddings redemption of althulus

If I saw Eddings on the street I would punch him for that one. view post

I mentioned it cause you said somewhere that you grew up on a tobaccy farm.

And bein' as I am from Steeltown I view it as a violation of basic human rights to have less than 1 Tim Horton's outlet per 7 citizens.

I shall have to contact Amnesty International vis-a-vis the deplorable conditions in T-Town.

The agenda of the skin spies and the Consult posted 24 May 2005 in The Thousandfold ThoughtThe agenda of the skin spies and the Consult by diarmuid, Peralogue

in all kindness my friend may i say...

The Warrior Prophet

that being said you raise some interesting points...

perhaps the consult has merely come in to action, as it where, as a result of the holy wars harbringers..

wouldn't take a dunyain to see that in the three seas there would aris such a conflict of some sort

to static a situation to remain constant

maybe all follows from that condition..and the Consult merely knew they needed a ride somewhere and grabbed a passing cart...

until further proof comes along i am gonna have trouble with Maithanet being either a Consult member or tool...unwitting or no

and I have no problem beleiving the skin spies are kept i the dark as you say

they are not of the Consult but merely constructs thereof I would guess...

interesting questions tho' view post

the calm cool of a serene september evening...

you walk into the local golden arches....

the man in front of you orders the big mac combo for 3.29...

you butt in front of him and take his order away and as he stops you with is cheeks flushed in ire you say....

"pardon me sirrah...but I am of the Logos....the McDeal that comes before"

pressing 3.29 into his palm you exit the building with a grace that Surwe can only dream of...

if religion is no more than an attempt to, as a society, reign in our baser natures....

and it succeeds

then is that religion itself not the god?

do our desires create the fullfillment of our needs? view post
