Bad, bad book. BAAAD. posted 08 April 2005 in Off-Topic DiscussionBad, bad book. BAAAD. by Cohen, Peralogue

WoT is a great series and, like other books there is the place where it gets somewhat slow and because it is so epic in scale, that just makes the stall seem much larger. Im on book five so im not fully done and im reading Erikson now but its a long series... its how its written... maybe becuase ive not read it all im not understanding exactly how boring it is but idk, i took a stab at it.

I also made it part way through book 5 of the WoT series untill I just didn;t care anymore....I am the dragon reborn I am not the dragon reborn....blah blah bla yada yada yada the world ends. I didn't even think Rand aand Perrin were still in the book and it's on # 7 now? This should have been a sextet at most I still shake my head when I walk by the series in the book store..Loved the first three and some of the fourth but com'on end it already view post

I really enjoyed both books, but seem to be different from many in that I think I liked the first book more.

Guess I was going from the idea that Kellhus was human. As the second book progresses I just found it harder to believe that he was that much better a warrior than everyone else and he was also several levels higher in terms of intelligence.

Did anyone else read the book and think "Geez, it is getting harder to swallow that every person he meets is a complete moron in comparison"?[/quote:1e159qom]

I struggle right now as to what offends me the most about this post........Ingnorance? How many people do you know that have been train since birth to control there suroundings and become a master at aggression? Well just the other day I watched a program on the Tibetan monks ...6 years old and this child could do things you woudn't believe. And that isn't fictional. I am beginning to realize what has offended me the most and I have to say it's when you said "Geez".
.......Speaking of Morons look around you the world is full of them .. some even run countries!!!! People want to believe in something and its fairly obvious that the characters in these books need the same.
p.s.
The second book was better... more war.

Was Cnauir gay? posted 25 May 2007 in The Thousandfold ThoughtWas Cnauir gay? by Cohen, Peralogue

I have read this thread from 1st post to last and while I found it quite hilarious at moments I also felt like violently shaking sense into some of the posters. I cannot believe that people want to label Cnauir with some 21st century moniker...GAY, Cnauir is not gay in the 21st century version of the word in any way. I concede the point that yes , Cnauir had sex with men ie. Moengus, but as a Dunyain Moengus did this to further possess Cnauir, and Cnuair raped Conphas in order to possess and break him,(Breaker of horses and men) to prove to Conphas that he was the most violent of men, to prove to himself ,as Cnauir was contstantly inadequite in his own mind. But I never found his homosexual acts to be defined as strictly the need to have sex with men for gratification. There was always underlining meaning with him.

If indeed we must label Cnuair, he is as he defines himself, most violent of all men, and how can you call yourself that if you are not willing to fuck another man in the ass? Why hold prejudice to men in terms of rape when you seek to possess with fear?

Cnauir was not gay, he was possessed by a Dunyain, and damaged beyong repair. Most of you seem to be blinded by the homosexual acts instead of the meaning behind the acts. Cnauir was the product of an absolute mindfuck by Moengus and constantly battled the after effects of this interaction, he felt wronged and shame acompanies that wrong doing.Cnauir did not lust after men as a label of gay might insinuate. He blood lusted after one man, the very man that poseesed him in all ways, a Dunyain monk. view post

Of course he's homosexual, and or course it matters!!! It doesn't take away from him, it adds... but come on, you'd have to be insane not to see his homosexuality as a integral part to his story! I mean, i may have read it wrong, but i think he even rapes Conphas!

Be careful though not to confuse homosexuality with how it appears in our culture... i mean, we are talking about an ancient, medieval and frankly fictional fantasy culture! And he's a massive, unbeatable barbarian! It doesn't manifest in a way that we would understand, but he is homosexual. And it never took away from the story, it only added!

That's just my opinion, but i was never insulted by the idea... if anything, i applauded the courage of Bakker to take it there! But it is a major part of his struggle against his people, against himself... and the beauty is how Bakker realistically never lets him address with words or some unrealistic monlogue of acceptance... he is the breaker of horses and men, most violent, and Bakker lets him be homosexual in a breath-taking way... grim, silent, brooding... a storm of violence waiting to be unleashed, and chasing Moenghus through the whole world to deal with the betrayal, the heart break, and the classic belief of a homosexual barbarian in denial: that a someone MADE him this way and must pay for it! Someone else is responsible for his lack of respect among the clans, for his feeling of loss and hollowness, for his feeling of inadequacies... and his compensation is to become so violent, so horrifying, with so many wives, and with the taking of serwe as a sexual prize... and all of it is to no avail, because he cannot deny what he is. He can only deny the world the chance to see it.[/quote:1rxtr6bi]

Just throwing that out there, for all we know Maithanet could actually be Satan. view post

Achamian posted 12 June 2007 in The Great Ordeal [supposed]Achamian by Cohen, Peralogue

interesting insights and ideas on this thread, but the whole idea of the next series starting 20 years later troubles me and brings me to question.

1. How old was Seswatha when the first Apocalypse happened, I was under the impression that history would repeat itself in the second, Celmomas=Khellus Seswatha=Achamian.

2. With events unfolding so quickly in the first three novels, why would it take another 20 years for anything of importance to happen? why would we rejoin the story with Akka being an old bitter ex mandate? Surely it does not take 20 years for him to learn or discover the truth behind Khellus.

3. With the consult resurfacing, will the mandate not be more active in pursuing open war or at the least trying to track down the origins of the skin spies, and more?

4.After the battle of Kiyuth, the plainsmen are scattered and defeated, and the heathen Kian also crushed, and if Khellus truly believes in the consult and the Apocalypse prophesies, is 20 years an feesible timeline to wait before warring in the north? why not strike when a major faction of the last apocalypse has been rendered usless prevoiusly by Conphas?

This could be just a result of my whorish mind and eyes craving more words from Bakker, I don't want to miss anything Akka is thinking or doing for the next 20 years! view post

Akka....The Chanv addict? posted 12 June 2007 in The Great Ordeal [supposed]Akka....The Chanv addict? by Cohen, Peralogue

An epiphany maybe, but I was just commenting on how old Achamian will be in 20 yrs, (67-69) maybe to old to be effective in the Great ordeal...or the second apocalypse. Is it too crazy to think he might resort to using chanv to extend his life in order to combat the consult in the future?

Or am I way of base? view post

Logos is theft posted 06 July 2007 in The Warrior ProphetLogos is theft by Cohen, Peralogue

Ahhh... indeed, WHAT COMES BEFORE! is it by seeing the shortest path to the end of "it's" mission? To a Dunyain mission is everything. The term Darkness represents the movement of ones soul, and by mastering why a soul is moved you can determine what comes after.

Maybe...Who f**** knows!

Is No-God an Apache Attack Helicopter? posted 10 July 2007 in The Thousandfold ThoughtIs No-God an Apache Attack Helicopter? by Cohen, Peralogue

To me it seems as if the No-God doesn't even know what it is or why it is there, it asks WHAT AM I, WHAT DO YOU SEE, because even it does not know why and what it is, does it even know that it's worshipped, or does it want an explanation as to why it even exists. I am not going to presume to know what it is, but the name itself "No-God" seems to portray that it is quite opposite to God as we know it, a void of good so to speak. Perhaps even the void of everything, hence it does not even know what it is. view post

Maithanet posted 30 August 2007 in The Judging EyeMaithanet by Cohen, Peralogue

I feel foolish for not suspecting Maithenet to be Dunyain in the first place, his mannerism and the way he could incite with his voice and words...it all seems so clear in hindsight.

But to the topic at hand, in my opinion Maithenet will be only one of Kellhus's counsellors in the new cabinet, perhaps the spiritual leader as he is now and of course completely in league with the shortest path to save the world from being closed. But again I must say how disappointed I am that we will miss 20 years of progress, unless the majority of the first book will be recapping those lost years. The ending of TTT sure left me with allot of questions. view post

I wish I'd never found TDTCB when I did then I wouldn't have to wait so long for more Dunyain gratification. I've reread the series three times so far and I am thinking of doing it again.God help me if TGO takes any longer to be published. view post

4.What do you think the old man said to Kellhus that Kellhus had to immediately kill him for after?.[/quote:1bu4fopa]

I think it is stated in the book what the old man says, I believe it has to do with where Moengus lives "under the only tree" or something regarding where he resides. As for killing him I think it was nessesary in order to keep the information a secret. Just like when he kills the cishauram in the city. view post

5. Was Maithanent and Moenghus in it together all along to set up Kellhus as the Aspect Emperor? Was the plan to establish one kingdom...Moengus said something to the likes of with Inrithi and Fane the Thousandfold Thought or the Dunyain cant exist or something like that...
.[/quote:281ikfa4]

It is the effort of the Consult to shut the world, close it off from the outside that is what threatens the Dunyain and that is why Moengus summoned his son, it is also why Maithenet(Moengus's other half son) called for the Holy war, so yes it was all a master plan to have Kellhus become AE.

Yes indeed, what about poor deranged Cnauir? He's probably shacked up with the consult somewhere shaggin skin spies and whatnot. he was in cahouts with the consult at the end of TTT so we can only guess that he might pop up in the following books, an old instigator to possibly make life hard on Kellhus, or to do some dirty work. With the Consults magical devices and such who knows, there could be a whole army of Sclyvendi trouble makers in the next series.

But I can only assume these issues, the consult might have just killed him after his usefullness ran out. view post

I should let some of the more intellectuals on this site handle this question but I believe I might be able to help, it is the ability to see the many threads of reaction to an action/actions, think of it like a pool of water, drop a stone and watch the ripple effect, the logos deals with this concept, the ability to see the ripple effect of an action before said action is done. Now take a handfull of stones and throw them into the pool, the thousandfold thought covers this concept, the ability to see multiple actions and there effects prior to said actions. It's opening ones mind to every concievable action to acheive the desired effect at one time. The ultimate in Dunyain existence.

Of course I may be off base but as I write this I feel that I have acheived in dumming this down to a simple paragraph.

I am now patting myself on my back. view post
