Greetings from the snowbelt.... posted 15 Jan 2009, 21:01 in WelcomesGreetings from the snowbelt.... by Isûphiryas, Candidate

Hello....my name is Shayne Van Oene. I hail from Walkerton, Ontario, Canada. Currently I am just over a quarter of the way through "The Darkness That Comes Before" and am finding it a quite intense novel. :) I like what I've read so far, that I already purchased the following two novels. My reading time is precious these days, so I rotate through three novels and a few other lighter reading books(ie: Lonely Planet travel books, railway history, etc.). Other than working, I spend most of my waking hours spending time with Amanda, listening to music, attending my nephew's sporting events, talking to my friends on the Lake of Tears forum(Swedish band), constantly dreaming of what life should be like and reading(of course). I will hopefully have time in the future to banter about this intriguing forum :) Ciao ...... Isûphiryas view post

Thank you Harrol :) I quite like your signature....where does it come from?? or is it your original?? By the way, you will notice that I use "..." quite often in my posts. It is just a staple of mine and a way to connect fractured sentences or thoughts etc... You might say that I bastardize the English language a bit. Glad to meet your acquaintance!
I also like Pink Floyd, but I believe some of the best music ever created is the lesser-known bands. Riverside, from Poland, for example. They play a Pink Floyd-y style, but it's completely original and complex, without becoming too much. Porcupine Tree, as well. The compositions they create, in my opinion, are beyond what anyone's ever done.[/quote:212xp0ni] I could not argue against the inherent lyrical and musical genius of either Riverside and Porcupine...I have been listening to Riverside for approximately three years now and never tire of them in the least....I would list them in my Top 5 musical artists that I have ever laid ears on! I have recently just began to listen to Porcupine Tree whom I love more and more every day. That being said, musical taste is exactly what it is.....though I have music that I love, but will not listen to unless a certain mood is breached at a particular moment in time. Actually my favourite music of all time is as follows....Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Lake of Tears(has a forum that feels like family to me), Dead Can Dance and Riverside. Though at the moment I recommend a Riverside self-titled side project called Lunatic Soul....I cannot find the words to decribe this album accurately enough....*sighs* finally to PF... "Just listened to floyd's "animals" at work today.... damn, i forgot how good it is...." - Buckethead honestly I am a Pink Floyd fan, but there is no album that I enjoy more than Animals....in my humble opinion... 8) view post

Re: Your First Time posted 17 Jan 2009, 03:01 in Off-Topic DiscussionYour First Time by Isûphiryas, Candidate

In comparison to my younger days, I am not the reader I used to be. I started with Hardy Boys mystery books and an informational book called "Tell Me Why". Actually the only classic that I enjoyed was Lord of the Flies. I think the two novels that influenced the reading I do now were "Black Company" by Glen Cook and of course "The Hobbit". The other influence for me would have to be the pencil and paper role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Realizing that there was more to reading than Shakespeare...which I appreciate more now than when I was a child....I probably called it a complete waste of time when I was younger  ...... ...now that I have completely dated myself... view post
Isûphiryas... you almost sound like me, splayed out in the middle of several books, and series. Like attending a buffet and filling up a large dinner plate with everything and only eating bits of each, not quite finishing it all. yeah :( .... view post

Re: Who Am I? posted 27 Jan 2009, 04:01 in Philosophy DiscussionWho Am I? by Isûphiryas, Candidate

Who I am is an ever-evolving question that I try to answer from time to time, but never seem to come up with an significantly defining resolution to it all. I know where and what I would like to be doing at this present moment in time, but do not know how to get it accomplished. I know one thing...I definitely have not nearly filled my full potential as a human being nor am I satisfied with the status quo in my very existence. When I have a little more time on my hands.....I will delve more into this fascinating subject :) view post

I agree that mainstream radio music can be a bit skewed and is highly overrated :( .....the one thing that the internet has solved for us is the ability to listen to music (unskewed for the most part) and choose exactly the music that you really want to listen to :D ....that being said....on my limited budget, I still like to support musical artists that I love as best as humanly possible! view post

Favourite quotes, lyrics or just words..... posted 06 Mar 2009, 07:03 in Off-Topic DiscussionFavourite quotes, lyrics or just words..... by Isûphiryas, Candidate

I'll start with a little song from The Weakerthans[/color:19jpujfc]..... [i:19jpujfc]Reconstruction Site[/color:19jpujfc][/i:19jpujfc] Well, I’m lost I’m afraid Rope tying down a leaky boat To the roof of a car on a road in the dark and it’s snowing If I’m more then it means less Last call for happiness I’m your dress near the back of your knees and your slip is showing I’m a float in a summer parade Up the street in the town that you were born in With a girl at the top wearing tulle And a Miss Somewhere sash, waving like the queen Well beauty’s just another word I’m never certain how to spell Go tell the nurse to turn the TV back on Throw away my misery It never meant that much to me It never sent a get-well card. And I'm broke, like a bad joke Somebody’s uncle told at a wedding reception in 1972 Where a little boy under a table with cake in his hair Stared at the grown-up feet as they danced and swayed And his father laughed and talked on the long ride home And his mother laughed and talked on the long ride home And he thought about how everyone dies someday And when tomorrow gets here, where will yesterday be And fell asleep in his brand new winter coat Buy me a shiny new machine that runs on lies and gasoline And all those batteries we stole from smoke alarms And disassembles my despair It never took me anywhere It never once bought me a drink These lyrics mean little on the surface, but mean so much more when listening to the actual song and how they are worded. John K. Samson is incredibly witty with his introspective songwriting. view post
