Kellhus's State of Mind posted 04 April 2007 in The Great Ordeal [supposed]Kellhus's State of Mind by TheDarkness, Peralogue

just to clarify one of my earlier statements, when i said that the dunyain were sent into exile by the Consult, I did not mean that the consult did it on purpose, i meant that as a result of the devastation wrought by the destructive nature of the Consult, they lost their original home and were forced to search for a new safe place.

the fact that they could scale the walls does not really prove that they were in a good condition. the kid saw them scale the walls, all that really necessitates is that some scaled the walls then they could have opened the gates for the rest of them. In any event the Dunyain trained both mentally and physically, so scaling walls would not prove too difficult.

I am currently rereading TDTCB and am about to come to the part where Cnauir encounters Kellhus. I am looking forward to any clues that it might give about the reason the Dunyain sent Moenghus out. Does anyone have any opinions about why they did this. The whole scout thing doesnt really seem right to me. They must know what comes before to know what comes after. They know that an Anisurimbor once ruled men and led them in a fight against the no god. With the combined logos of all the Dunyain they must be planning something on a larger scale than a simple scout mission.

Sure they live in isolation, but i do not believe they are blind to the activites of men and nonmen alike. they must keep a close eye on the world so as to be in a position of power when the next apocalypse occurs. remember it is the world who has forgotten them, not them who have forgotten the world. Even the Consult is desperate to find out about these Dunyain. the most impoartant element of attack is the element of suprise!! view post

Your favourite character? posted 04 April 2007 in The Darkness That Comes BeforeYour favourite character? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

1. Kellhus when he first left on his mission, hilarious! he is dumbfounded by staring at a branch for days.

2. The bird crapping on Xerius' face when he is presenting his indenture!

3. Akka taking a dump in esmi's room! with her talking about it being the second apocalypse. that might be considered pillow talk, but not in my sense of the term.

anyways this was all funny to me and all in the first 1/3 of TDTCB view post

Anyways favorite charcter is Akka, love his self doubt and his intellegence, sometimes hate him for his weakness but love him at the same time for it. it is those moments of weakness that give him the sense that he is real, and just like on of us. just like they would say "seswatha never shat" well akka does and we see it firsthand.

other than that, i love Cnauir for the same reasons. Breaker of horses and men. he will always have a place in my heart! view post

The Meaning of Life posted 04 April 2007 in Philosophy DiscussionThe Meaning of Life by TheDarkness, Peralogue

So in answer to DietCokes question. Of course you size someone up when you first meet them. and everytime you meet a person you think you are better than them. its part or our nature. everyone thinks they are special. everyone thinks they are here for a reason. nothing wrong with that, even if it gives you a superiority complex.

DietCokes post was not so bad, it was worded in a generalized way so that it glossed over obvious contradictions. they were simple observations of the US social scene.

We have out grown our evolutionary predispositions. We are social animals, we are pack animals. therefore we need alpha dogs, we need leaders and followers. However the sheer number of people we have produced have skewed the need for these different positions. view post

Favorite Quotes of the Prince of Nothing posted 04 April 2007 in Off-Topic DiscussionFavorite Quotes of the Prince of Nothing by TheDarkness, Peralogue

here is one that i just came across, might not be my favorite but it definately resonates with me

"Some events mark us so deeply that they find more force of presence in their aftermath than in their occurance. They are moments that rankle at becoming past, and so remain contemporaries of our beating hearts. Some events are not remembered--they are relived." view post

Rome posted 28 August 2007 in Off-Topic DiscussionRome by TheDarkness, Peralogue

It was a great show the first season, but it ended up trying to be to artistic in season two. Much like the sopranos in thier last seasons. It stated off great and very much historically accurate, but then fell to far into the side stories and dramas. It could have gone on forever, it stopped at the most interesting part of Rome's history...the rise of Octavian, Rome's greatest Emperor the Great Ceasar Augustus!! He held the throne the longest defeating plot after plot, what a great story. boo on you HBO taking the easy road out. finale view post

R. Scott, can we get a box set??? posted 18 September 2007 in Author Q & AR. Scott, can we get a box set??? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

This might be a question better directed at the publisher, but since i dont have a direct link to them and am too lazy to try and make one, hook it up man!! I have now bought five copies of books in the trilogy. I have done this either because i have either lent one or the other out and it returned in horrible condition, or I myself let the book go into disrepair. Some books have highlighting and markings i wanted to make. anyways i would like a set that i can keep pristine.

thanks view post

Who would you cast in a Prince of Nothing movie? posted 19 September 2007 in General DiscusssionWho would you cast in a Prince of Nothing movie? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

I actually like your idea about Mel Gibson. It never would have entered my mind to cast him, and my initial reaction was not favorable, but i think he can pull it off.

I have thought about this alot. But i have not been able to really place physical faces on the characters. one of the great things about reading is you dont have to, they can morph and change as the story does. But I have always seen Akka as dark and brooding. Somthing like that giant form harry potter or the dwarf from LOTR. but somehwere in between those two sizes and fatter.

I think Kellhus, Cnaur, and Esmi are the other most important characters to cast, but ill have to get back on who i think should play them i ill research your suggestions, since i havent heard of some of those actors. view post

R. Scott, can we get a box set??? posted 21 September 2007 in Author Q & AR. Scott, can we get a box set??? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

lol

ya i hadnt thought how well it would go with my dark walnut study!! leather bound that is good thinking. I was just hoping for somehting along the lines of hard back. but why not aim high. Kellhus' musing would feel so much more profound if my hands were gripping leather!!

Right now i have one hard back, TTT, and several paper backs, and ill keep buying them view post

Women as the Few in the Three Seas? posted 30 October 2007 in General DiscusssionWomen as the Few in the Three Seas? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

Do you think that women possess the talents of the Few? Are they not selected cuz they would distract the schools from their studies or because they would send every boyfriend they ever had up in flames?? hmm i wonder. Im not going to sink to the depths of sexism and clicheism by questioning whether the are not trained because if they were the three seas would have a new scholastic war once every month...hahahaaaaaah sorry. view post

Kellhus' Story believable? posted 02 December 2007 in The Darkness That Comes BeforeKellhus' Story believable? by TheDarkness, Peralogue

Kellhus draws the attention of the Emperor early on in the Holy War, never a good thing. How long could he really last without someone finding out that he is not the prince of Atrithau. Also dont you think that a least one person in the three seas is from Atrithau or had a relative from there. Or at least heard stories about the ruling families that lived there and would realize that Kellhus' story is not true. Any thoughts? view post

Your less favourite characters posted 03 December 2007 in The Darkness That Comes BeforeYour less favourite characters by TheDarkness, Peralogue

I have to say i like all the characters listed on that poll. The only people i finding myself hating in the book are the Mandate schoolmen, besides Akka of course, and Sarcellus. It really upset me how he died and then came back dammmn i that guy. But really i hate the madate schoolmen the most. maybe because they have so much power and we really dont get to see any of it. and because they live on gossip and never make any moves, view post

I was watching an animated music video earlier. Then it came to me! Maybe this should be an animated flick.

But i like the Gary Oldman reccomendation, but i think I would cast him as Iyokus. view post
