My top 5 fantasy series (at the moment):

Steven Erikson: The Malazan series

George R.R. Martin: A song of Ice and Fire

Robert Jordan: The Wheel of Time

R. Scott Bakker: The Prince of Nothing

Well I only had four at the moment. I like a lot of other series but can't choose between them. view post

Dont be ashamed (Harry Potter) posted 08 August 2004 in Literature DiscussionDont be ashamed (Harry Potter) by DarkMatter, Peralogue

I really love the Potter books. They are just fun to read. I even bought Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone four days ago so I can read it again I borrowed them from my brothers girlfriend when I first read them, but they broke up so I can't borrow them again, so now I'll have to buy the books so I can read them over and over again. view post

Why read fantasy? posted 08 August 2004 in Literature DiscussionWhy read fantasy? by DarkMatter, Peralogue

Well my first contact with fantasy was a Swedish authour called Astrid Lindgren she wrote childrens books but I guess they could be called fantasy. I hadn't heard about fantasy as a genre when I read those. A few years later I read Narnia and after that Tolkien after that I found the fantasy section on the local library and I was hooked. view post

Do you believe a God exists? posted 08 August 2004 in Philosophy DiscussionDo you believe a God exists? by DarkMatter, Peralogue

My thougts about this might be somewhat confusing (They are confusing for me anyway )

I think a god (or some kind of force) exist, this god/force created the universe and created other gods or showed itself for different people in different shapes therefore different belifes exist.

I don't think it matters what you belive, you exist for a reason and you will understand the reason after your death.

All religions are correct but slightly wrong. And there is an afterlife.

Sorry for my unstructured thoughts. view post

How would you describe yourself? posted 21 August 2004 in Off-Topic DiscussionHow would you describe yourself? by DarkMatter, Peralogue

From the posts, I've read on this site. I imagine people here to be, well read, and often have a high education level and being generally intelligent. However, I might be very wrong.

This is who I am:

    I'm almost never serious.
    I can be evil.
    I like reading fantasy.
    I am a bit mad.
    I can be immature.
    I can be stupid.
    I'm Swedish.
I am really bad at grammar.
And I’ve got a lot of other flaws.

So how would you describe yourself?

This is a post brought to you by the combination of tiredness and boredom view post

A city within a building? posted 07 September 2004 in Off-Topic DiscussionA city within a building? by DarkMatter, Peralogue

Set up as an eco dome, that way it should be self sufficient with its own water recycle filtered through the plants.

That is actually my main idea.

Powerwise I'd like it to be Solar although could also combine it with hydropower would pretty much sort it out.

I think solar would be best I'm not very fond of hydropower because of the environmenal effecs.

Building wise probably somewhere where thiers space available, as long as light penetrates then it would be possible to have it as an underwater city with the plants providing the oxygen.

I don't think natural light would be an option because of the solar power that would have to be on the roof, and I don't think glass would be ideal for a roof, because of the green house effect that would create.

Positive effects would be that it would be expanding into unused land

Yes it could be in a desert or in the middle of the atlantic but the main thing I think is buildin several levels.

negative wise difficult to get people to and from.

Yes I don't have any good ideas for this yet not if it's going yo be totally sealed from the outside world. Somi kind of gates would be necessary but it would take time for people that might work outside the dome. view post
