Thousandfold Thought discussion *Spoilers* posted 06 January 2006 in The Thousandfold ThoughtThousandfold Thought discussion *Spoilers* by Nauticus, Auditor

How about a thread that we can discuss TTT, for those of us that have read it?

I'll wait for some sort of permission before starting any discussion.

Good idea? Bad idea? Wait until the 20th? view post

I haven't read the book but I don't see why people who read it should wait to discuss it.

As long as it's clear to everyone that the topic contains spoilers, I'm all for it ! view post

Thats what I thought. But I figure I should wait - I don't know, if a bunch of spoilers for Bakker's unreleased book are one click away, I don't know if he'd appreciate it.

I'll wait for a 'go' before, well, 'go'ing. view post

I walked into the bookstore todat just to browse, I didn't expect TTFT to come out for another couple of weeks or so, so when I saw a couple of blood-red copies sitting humbly on the bookshelves I just about shit myself. I've already read about about a quarter of it, and its real difficult for me to even sit here and type this with the still fresh TTFT right beside me. I don't think it would be much of a spoiler if I reveal that so far, the book is fucking good. view post

As far as I know it's officially released in Canada, at least in English so I think discussion is fine. As long as people know this thread contains spoilers that is.
I will say that the book is amazing, I read it in a little less than two days, just ripping through it. I was like a crack addict I couldn't put the thing down. I'm know pouring my way through the glossary which is quite good. view post

The book is phenomenal.

SPOILER

I've not finished it yet... The Holy War is at Holy Amoteu, and they just departed to Shimeh. I can't bring myself to read the Battle of Shimeh, because I expect too much out of it. I don't know if the novel can deliver, but I wouldn't be shocked if it does... view post

I think it does deliver on the battle, but in a different way from what I was expecting. Not to give anything away about the battle itself but the style he used (rapid changing back and forth of various perspectives) made it feel fast paced and epic in my opinion. I thought it was very well done. view post

I was much more interested in the very final scene and later, when I have the time, I'm going to ask Scott about another thematic element I saw there. Something tells me the doubt Akka has been harboring throughout the books might just play an important role in the future series. view post

Well. I'm going to go read the last hundred or so pages, and I'll come back and post my thoughts. view post

Aldarion - Indeed, I was under that impression as well. I also have a question or two concerning Maithanet. view post

I finished reading the book on Satursday; awesome work by Scott, I couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up the PoN series. There were two things in particular that I had high expectations for : an explanation of the metaphysics behind sorcery and finding out the more profound motivations of the Consult. I was very impressed at his development for both of these subjects - the "striptease", as Scott likes to call it, was well worth the wait!

One thing, though: was I the only one left with a strange sense of...horror after reading the book? I'm afraid to get more explicit here - I hate giving spoilers as much as receiving them - but I'm very eager to discuss TTT at large with all of you view post

I think that's an excellent way to describe the feeling I had too. Excellent end to an excellent series, and about halfway through TTT I started to realize that any realization by the main characters was likely to result in profound unhappiness. Quite happy to see Drusas walk away from it all in the end.

I'm going to have to re-read the last few chapters before I can fully digest the implications - it was quite late last night when I tore through the final 2 chapters and I think I was starting to skim certain sections to get back to Anasûrimbor family chitchat. I have my own thoughts about what Kellhus' visions of divinity meant and what he plans to do now that he's Aspect-Emperor, but I want to make sure I didn't miss anything obvious in my rush to get to Drusas' conclusion before I start wondering aloud. view post
