How does the Psukhe compare the the Gnosis in terms of power? It is obvious that the Gnosis far surpasses the power of the Anagogic sorceries, does this hold true against the Psukhe as well? view post

We dont have enough info on the Psukhe to speculate, but someone must have some theories ?

Anyone ? view post

Well, the books say the Psukhe is "almost" as formidable as the Anagogis, so it's obviously not nearly as powerful as the Gnosis. view post

Thanks White Lord, guess I forgot about that little tidbit. view post

The appendices to TDTCB mention that "the Psukhe is in many ways as formidable as the Anagogic sorcery of the Schools".

And that it can't be seen by The Few and that very little is known of it. view post

Psukhe vs The Gnosis posted 16 June 2005 in Author Q & APsukhe vs The Gnosis by Deerow, Auditor

Well the simple fact that it cannot be seen by the few grants it a massive advantage right away. While blow for blow it may not be as powerful as the Gnosis, or even the Anagogic sorcery, that one difference grants the Psukhe an edge that could push it about the Anagogic sorcery and maybe even close to Gnosis sorcery.

But this is the "Author Q &amp; A" so I think we all know who is the best person to answer this question <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> view post

Yes, but you should remember that Achamian says how he destroyed two Cishaurim who attacked him in Shimeh, all the while not seeing anything. The Gnosis is simply too powerful, as things stand, for the Psukhe to overcome. Remember, if you have powerful wards, and know a sorcery that is stronger than the Anagogis, there is little a Cishaurim can do to you . . . view post

I agree...but if a Cishaurim got the drop on any other sorceror it would be in their favor.

Although...how do you miss a dude with no eyes and a snake around his neck?

But remember everyone if you saw a person with eyeless sockets and two scakeses wrapped around his/her head what would you think ? Cishaurim (Kind of like seaing a person with a long beard, Muslim Terrorist )...

So the Cishaurim are a disadvantaged in this way, they can be easily recognisable even though they the Psukhe is not felt by the Few... view post

I'm not going to lie...if I say a guy walking around with no eyes and snakes around his head I'm just going to run away. And that is without considering the fact that they may be able to smite me through magical means. view post

rofl I totally agree with you. If I saw some guy with no eyes and snakes around his neck coming towards me on the street I'd definitly be going to the other was pretty quickly! view post

Damn ! And I thought that adopting a snake as a pet and taking out my eyes would bring me new friends !

Seems I was mistaken... sigh view post

How did the Psukhe fit into the forms of thought as sorcery model again? It's more about a different level of perception than a different level of thought, isn't it? view post

Okay I saw a different thread where you said that it turns on the intent of the user, and I remember one from way back where you said all the other schools are pretty much built on western philosophy, but there's something different about the way eastern philosophy looks at things and that is the big difference with the Psukhe or something along those lines.

Gah I'm sure I've got it all garbled, if you don't want to say anything for fear of spoilers that's cool I'm just worried that I'm gettin it all wrong here or something. view post

Psukhe vs The Gnosis posted 09 July 2005 in Author Q &amp; APsukhe vs The Gnosis by Fanim, Commoner

Achamian makes no bones of his contempt for the Scarlet Spires. He thinks of himself as a philosopher, not a sorcerer. A universe in which magic is possible does not have the same metaphysical underpinnings as ours. The whole notion of objective reality becomes moot if thought can modify reality. Incidentally this is the same world many of our contemporaries think we live in, at least those who read books like Norman Vincent Peale's "The power of wishful^H^H^H^H^H^H^H positive thinking". If you thought capricious and arbitrary governments are bad, just think of what capricious and arbitrary physics mean.

The Gnosis' superiority may lie in the fact the Mandate knows what it is doing, unlike the other Schools that just try recipes without understanding why they work.

The fact the Mandate cannot see the Psukhe either suggests their understanding is not complete either. The real question is, why is the Consult so desperate to destroy the Cishaurim, while the anagogic schools are merely a distraction? It must be that the Psukhe is a danger to the Tekhne, more so than even the Gnosis. After all, the fact they could almost destroy the Scarlet Spires while undetected suggests they work on another plane altogether, just like the Psukhe. view post

Psukhe vs The Gnosis posted 11 July 2005 in Author Q &amp; APsukhe vs The Gnosis by Cynical Cat, Auditor

Remember the Consult was originally a Gnostic school. They don't fear the Scarlett Spires for the same reason the Mandate doesn't: it is bronze to their iron. The Psukhe, whatever it is, is different and invisible. The Consult, through their face spies, may have a better idea of what the Psukhe is and because of that fear its capabilities even more. view post
