So, it looks like Overlook switched to the cover on the US trade paperback. Look [url=http://www.clarkesworldbooks.com/book_1585676772.html:1opldhxv]here[/url:1opldhxv].

I liked the original cover better. I wonder why they switched to this. Am I the only one?

I've never liked the rather dull-looking silver and gold covers with the awful fonts. I have the cover on the link, and I think it looks ok. view post

DULL?!?!

Personally, I think the paperback cover is crap. The best part of it is the Erikson quote at top.

The original was striking, mystical. Ancient texts entombed herein, is what it said. This new one says to me "Hey, boy! Yeah, you with the new Forgotten Realms novel! Try me! I am appealing! I have castles!" view post

Personnaly, I think it's the french version that has the worse cover.

Not that it hasn't it's beauty, but I prefer the ones from the canadian edition. view post

When I saw that cover, the first word to enter my head was not 'striking' or 'mystical' or anything like that - it was 'tacky'. view post

As opposed to the non-tackiness of the one you seem to prefer?

Oh well, as they say, de gustibus non est disputandum . . . view post

Heh, IMO yeah, but everyone has their own taste. I just tend to think the people who pick british book covers have more of it than most. view post

Well, to be perfectly honest, I don't much care about the book covers. They are obviously the product of what the marketing people think will attract the most buyers in different markets, and as such have nothing to do with the book's quality. I have to say, though, that the French cover is atrocious and I don't know how it's to promote book sales . . . view post

Penguin Canada chose the original cover. This is one of the few occasions that I don't like the UK cover of a book. The French, however, wow... what were they thinking?

Uh, having just seen a better quality picture of the US cover (note that I've never seen the cover IRL - they don't use that cover here) I take back my comment that it was 'tacky' - but I still say the UK cover is better. view post
