Ok guys, I just finished the Thousandfold Thought...left me kind of bummed but I have a few questions of my own to ask cause thats what happens after reading this awesome book with so many back stories etc.

1. Can someone explain the Thousandfold Thought to me in dumbed down terms? I read the books and I got the general gist of the Dunyain way of life etc but the Thousandfold Thought still illudes me.

2. I got the idea that Kellhus brought about the "Apocalypse" with the end of the old ways and the beginning of the new ways under the new Aspect-Emperor Kellhus. But with all of this...where does the Consult and the No-God fit in? I understand Kellhus's apocalypse is a metaphorical apocalypse but I was expecting a big showdown between Achiamian and Kellhus vs. the No-God...was anybody else?

3. What happened to my deranged buddy Cnaiur? I read that he killed Moenghus...now with his ultimate deed done? Where does he go now? What about him and Kellhus?

4.What do you think the old man said to Kellhus that Kellhus had to immediately kill him for after?

5. Was Maithanent and Moenghus in it together all along to set up Kellhus as the Aspect Emperor? Was the plan to establish one kingdom...Moengus said something to the likes of with Inrithi and Fane the Thousandfold Thought or the Dunyain cant exist or something like that...

Sorry my questions may seem duh questions but there was a lot that illuded me after reading these books, so indepth and complicated...more than my normal reading but I loved every minute of it. view post

Erm, I think that the actual second Apocalypse is still to come... The Thousandfold Thought isn't the last book that follows this storyline, it's just the last in the first trilogy. So I'd expect the No-God to make an appearance eventuallly. There are loads of people here who can answer the other questions far better than I can, so I'll leave it to them to do so. view post

I think it is stated in the book what the old man says, I believe it has to do with where Moengus lives "under the only tree" or something regarding where he resides. As for killing him I think it was nessesary in order to keep the information a secret. Just like when he kills the cishauram in the city. view post

It is the effort of the Consult to shut the world, close it off from the outside that is what threatens the Dunyain and that is why Moengus summoned his son, it is also why Maithenet(Moengus's other half son) called for the Holy war, so yes it was all a master plan to have Kellhus become AE.

Yes indeed, what about poor deranged Cnauir? He's probably shacked up with the consult somewhere shaggin skin spies and whatnot. he was in cahouts with the consult at the end of TTT so we can only guess that he might pop up in the following books, an old instigator to possibly make life hard on Kellhus, or to do some dirty work. With the Consults magical devices and such who knows, there could be a whole army of Sclyvendi trouble makers in the next series.

But I can only assume these issues, the consult might have just killed him after his usefullness ran out. view post

I should let some of the more intellectuals on this site handle this question but I believe I might be able to help, it is the ability to see the many threads of reaction to an action/actions, think of it like a pool of water, drop a stone and watch the ripple effect, the logos deals with this concept, the ability to see the ripple effect of an action before said action is done. Now take a handfull of stones and throw them into the pool, the thousandfold thought covers this concept, the ability to see multiple actions and there effects prior to said actions. It's opening ones mind to every concievable action to acheive the desired effect at one time. The ultimate in Dunyain existence.

Of course I may be off base but as I write this I feel that I have acheived in dumming this down to a simple paragraph.

I am now patting myself on my back. view post

The Thousandfold Thought is not what has been said. It is the particular path that the people of the world must follow (involving a rewriting of their beliefs and values) in order to survive the Second Apocalypse and prevent the fruition of the Consult's plans. It is accessed partially through the Probability Trance, and partly by faith (as it requires some intuitive leaping ability). It is also seemingly not bound by standard models of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causality:3uyxfcn2]causality[/url:3uyxfcn2]. view post

I've not much time to reply but I just wanted to point out some conceit on your part, LS. I am not undermining your theory but to say that Cohen's and other's have it definitively wrong and you don't is a huge mistake. view post

imo,
Your mistaking the result of the Thousandfold thought for the definition of the Thousandfold thought. view post

I do like the criticism, I indeed may be wrong in my opinion. But again that's why I even post them, to read others opinions and be able to open my mind to different objectives. So I thank you LS, for offering your opinion on the Thousandfold Thought but it seems a rather small part of what it actually is. Like I stated in my prior reply I believe you have confused the result of using the TTFT to achieve an end with what the definition is. I do believe though you have it right when you stated that it was achieved trough the probability trance albeit Kellhus seems to tap into it rather quickly. view post

Cohen, what you were describing is simply the Probability Trance, which is by no means the Thousandfold Thought. It is a tree, warring as it grows in all directions. The definition is the result. It is an inspiration, an idea that conditions the ground they walk on.

This is not opinion, this is what the book directly states. view post

Just finished Thousandfold Thought posted 11 December 2007 in The Thousandfold ThoughtJust finished Thousandfold Thought by Israfel, Peralogue

Though what the book directly states is at least ambiguous enough to have spawned this topic... view post

LS, I don't why you incite me to write but I'm not sure why you are so sure you do understand. As Israfel wrote what is directly written about the Thousandfold Thought is highly ambiguous and has spawned countless threads and theories. Furthermore, yours isn't even the best definition that I've read on this site. Humble up a bit, chump. view post

I'd prefer to leave the crawling to you. While you're down there, try to learn a little respect.

In more technical terminology, the Thousandfold Thought is a meme complex. view post

Meme: cultural characteristic passed down generations
any characteristics of a culture, e.g. its language, that can be transmitted from one generation to the next in a way analogous to the transmission of genetic information.

No, that's not pretentious at all

Thanks for the insight though, it at least made me research into it a little more and rethink my view on the topic.

But as you can see i am also slowly losing my mind ,so who knows if that is actually a compliment. I can't even decide what flavor cat food i like best...

I think it's Fancy Feast, but the no-name brand has that special tang I can't resist.

Sorry, I've been living in a hotel for 2-months now waiting for a house to be built and I am totally bored and a little stir crazy.

Forgive me.

P.S.
