Scott, tell me this won't be your excuse for delaying TTT ;) posted 04 November 2004 in Author Q & AScott, tell me this won't be your excuse for delaying TTT ;) by Aldarion, Sorcerer-of-Rank

Did you read what Martin posted the day after the US election?

Here's the link: [url:xornsd27]http://www.georgerrmartin.com/nextbook.html[/url:xornsd27]

If he really believes this, this might be one of the more, ahem, "original" excuses I've ever heard. view post

Yeah, there's quite some talk of this at sffworld. I think you can trust that, whatever excuse I give, Larry, it'll be a lot more lame than that. Probably along the lines of, 'My cat pooped on my manuscript...'

Rest assured, though, the writing is going VERY well. I'm getting pretty damned excited! view post

Poor cat, being blamed for everything

I'll have to pop in there sometime later tonight. Been really busy this week developing a workout plan. Lungs checked out fine - it was sleep apnea and I'm responding well to medication. Already back to normal breathing, so back to working out and losing this paunch

Great to hear that the writing is going well - I guess 11 months or so isn't too far away, right? Right? view post

Remember that I started this bloody thing twenty years ago. I've been mooning over PoN for a long, long time. It's actually hard to believe that I'm about to finish the luverly monster... view post

How much of the series had you actually completed so many moons ago, Scott?

How much of the sequels changed in your "sanitized" rewrites? view post

I actually have the first version of the final chapter of PoN sitting beside me as I type, which if I remember correctly, I finished the same year Badmotorfinger came out ('92?). Everything's changed except the basic outline. Back then it was all one book, and the writer didn't know nuthin.' view post

And what point did the author feel he went from hopeless dreamer with no skill to what you've become? Was there a moment, or just a gradual absorption throughout the years of post sec?

Guess I'm just wondering, as a 23 y/o post-sec. punk myself, when all this work at this so-called credible institution is gonna transform whatever "talent" I supposedly have into some sort of pen-to-paper ability...

Not that senior English courses aren't FUN or anything.... view post

For the longest time my ambitions far exceeded my abilities. It wasn't until the third year of my PhD when the writing just seemed to 'click' - when the gap between what I wanted to say and my power of expression disappeared.

Then I just had to learn how to tell a story. view post

Jumping back to the original topic, Martin has a new post commenting on all the feedback he's received. Interestingly, he wrote this:

"I have also received some thoughtful and considered missives from Bush voters, expressing their disagreement with the views I expressed in my last update. I wish I had time to answer those, since I do believe that the only way America is ever going to heal is if people of good will on both sides talk to one another and find some common ground."

What did he call the Bush victory? a victory of racism and bigotry or something like that? I'd be interested to know just where his common ground lies. view post

On a more positive side, his latest updat reports that he hopes to have it finished by year's end. Now he may not actually succeed in doing that, but the fact that he thinks it's possible at all is most encouraging. view post

Of course, he also says he's said that before. So I guess we'll see when we see.

Of course, I'm going to have to wait until it comes out in paperback. :/

Meh, maybe I'll have my library fees paid off by then. view post

Scott, you get it published, I'll buy it. Any author who remembers things by release dates of Soundgarden (long live Kim Thayil) has me sold. view post

Hi Mr. Bakker i was wondering if you could expand on yoru future plans for PoN. I know there's a third book coming, is it the last? Any other series planned around the PoN world? Please fill us in on your long term plans!! view post

Sorry for the delay replying, ilana. This one somehow slipped through the cracks. I have outlines that sketch the entire story of the Second Apocalypse, starting with The Aspect-Emperor and ending with a third. Whether these will turn into trilogies like The Prince of Nothing remains to be seen. They could be dualogies. view post
