sometimes....like right now...i feel like dying. I think about as a normal thought...it doesnt scare me or seem any different than any other thought. I just don't feel like living anymore. view post

Don't say that.

Sometimes I feel like dying, sometimes I think that if I were to die right now, I'd be perfectly o.k. with it. Do you have anything in your life that makes it worth living? I know I do... I have a desire to go in to medicine or something equally as challenging and important. Aside from that, I have a couple really good friends who keep me grounded, I wish to expand the friendships I've created with them, experience new things and find my true potential. Then there is one particular friend of mine whom I happen to love, I want to win him over despite how he says love is for some but not others and it will never be for him. He has feelings towards me, but he doesn't love...

These are things that make us want to live. A goal, something that makes us want to get up in the morning, the people around us that make our days just that much better. view post

I am not an expert but I have always equated those fleeting thoughts of wanting to die with my desire to run. I want to run from frustration, shame, fear and the incomprehensible. Some times for a brief moment death seems like a good way to run, but it is not. Life is way more fulfilling when you stand and face things. Even if that means getting advice on how to deal with things which involves humility and admitting you do not have the answers to some of your life's needs. view post

i used to think about dying all the time. not because i no longer wanted to live, but because i wanted to know what death is like. but i keep telling myself, 'curiosity killed the cat.' view post

Here I thought it was a long fall and a sudden stop that killed the cat. view post

Ever thought about why you just want to die sometimes?

I'm curious, but is it one of those feelings which is caused by depression/sadness, or one that is caused by curiousity, or what? view post

Depression and world-weariness tend to appear during periods of prolonged, seemingly unescapeable stress. There's some science behind that, but I'm feeling too apathetic to look it up... view post

Well that made me feel better. I use derangement to escape stress. view post

Wow, that's heavy duty.

I highly recommend the movie "In Bruges". One character states "I'm suicidal. You're suicidal. We're all suicidal. Get over it. We all have to live with it. Somehow, in our own way." or something like that. Its a comedy, imo, but I felt that line summed up a lot.

In a philosophical way, I sometimes think this life is merely a test. The real life comes after we die. We're all placed here, or chose to be here at this time for a reason; a reason I suspect has to do with advancing our spiritual understanding, and advancing our life - in the whole universal scope of things. Once we've learned the lessons we need to learn, then, we can move on to the next stage of life to learn those lessons, whatever that may be, until we've finally learned all the lessons we need to learn to be once again united with the Divine One/Creator/Logos/God, whatever you wish to call it. view post

Try flipping the paradigm. Imagine someone you care about ending their life due to disinterest/depression/apathy or whatever. Then think why that might be a bad idea. I often find that whilst it is easy to see the flaws in other's thoughts or actions, we refuse the simple logic that aplies these insights to ourselves.

I've heard god things about this In Bruges movie, I believe I'll check it out. view post

This is a rough topic. Lord knows what people feel or what goes through their own mind at any given time or place. If only people can educate themselves in some way to think/believe that life is a test/exercise/lesson and it needs to be lived out regardless the hardship or ease, then they could move on properly in the whole cosmic outcome. In the case of suicide (which is still murder), my opinion, is those people will most likely come right back (or sent back?) to the life level they were at to try again - to learn those lessons they need to learn. Something equivalent to cosmic-scale karma. They did something that needs to be alleviated. These people would probably have a harder life the next time around.

But this is all philosophical/theological speculation...

Off topic... In Bruges was a great movie. I don't like Colin Farrell as an actor (except in Phone Booth) but he was hilarious in that movie. Then again, the movie is not so off topic because the movie has a suicide theme running through it view post

I believe I heard that theory of repeated incarnations re suicide in some chinese myth or legend. Reincarnation trips me out, take it to it's time trancending conclusion and Kellhus' lecture to Akka on the nature of magic starts to make creepy sense.

Anyhoo, recalling times when I have experienced suicidal thoughts I found my above thought some help - maybe it can help someone else through a tough time too. Rough topic sure, but discourse on such topics is better than staying silent, surely. view post

I think it's really good you've made the decision to open up about your feelings-even online. I'm not a psychologist or anything, but I highly recommend you do the same with your close friends, your family and your fiance. It's the people you're closest to who will be the greatest help and support to you. I also think you should seek the help of a counsellor or therapist. It might seem stupid or not worthwhile, but it worked wonders for me, even after a few weeks. It helps draw out problems you might not even know you have.
Good luck. If you need any help, I think everyone at this forum is more than willing to help you out. I know I am. Take care of yourself. view post

...perhaps a late reply, but a reply nonetheless. I think life is about learning, not necessarily about what you want to accomplish/become (although these are important things in what makes life). To me life is a quest for knowledge, a book waiting to be read, an unanswerable question that I try to answer. I don't think that life can be fully understood. Certainly many have tried, but for me, personally, I find that although the ultimate question(=life) is unanswerable, facets and little things become understood when one searches. Although I may never be satisfied with everything the way it is, I know that IT IS the way it is and thats something I can rely on. I probably am being a little confusing, but I know what I mean inside my thoughts. Do you?

Is there more to life? Certainly both sides can be argued and I am not competent enough to provide the correct answer, but I think people should at least try and find out. Seek more knowledge on any subject, there is always more to learn. I have struggled with thoughts like these as well, and what I fall back on is this: I don't know everything yet. Although I know I will never know everything, I can always know more. I hope you are doing well, and have come to some decision. view post
