On a day when the British Medical Journal recommends that you should stay at home, I thought I would start a discussion to see how people here feel about Friday the 13th and other superstitions. It is estimated that between $800 and $900 million dollars will be lost today because people refuse to bank or do business. In France, some people would hire themselves out as the "14th Guest" or [i:wk6piaqg]quatorzien[/i:wk6piaqg] to ward off bad luck that might befall the "13th Guest". I personally have no fear of the day and I am planning to dine out with friends this evening. Since it also falls in October this time, some people are doubly "freaked out" by this most unlucky day falling in the month of haunting. I would love to read stories about your own good or bad luck associated with Friday the 13th and other symbols. view post

hehehe if you wanna see the long term effects of pot, look at my dad. 50, smoked pot daily for at least 30 years. most energetic, motivated and hardworking person i've ever known.

Yeah I love reading about the Roman invasion of England and the rebellion that the 14th legion crushed. You would think because I am English in ethintisity that I would cheer for the Celts but I always end up cheering for the Romans. view post

Alright, but remember the legionaries that Rome used during that time frame were from northern Italy or from Spain. The people from those areas were Celts which means most Roman soldiers of that day were Celts fighting as the Romans taught them to. The 14th legion that crushed the Celtic revolt in England were from Spain and therefore Celtic themselves. view post
not to mention that rome used a lot of conquered tribes to fight in their armies. view post
True they mainly served as auxillary i.e. arcers, calvary and light infantry. They also were not citizens where as the legions were citizens. view post
