The Hangover Whinge: Why oh Why? + A Misery Poll posted 14 June 2006 in Off-Topic DiscussionThe Hangover Whinge: Why oh Why? + A Misery Poll by Xray the Enforcer, Auditor

I am the Walking Wounded today, suffering from way too much tequila ingested during a going-away fete for a beloved colleague. If I could've stayed home, I would still be in bed, trying to sleep the misery away. Instead I'm hunched in front of my computer, waiting for the goddamned Table of Contents to route back to me so I can make changes in the Quark file and get that fucker out the door. The subway ride from Brooklyn was its own hellish travail. At least I didn't barf on a child.

And what the hell is it about tequila that makes for such a horrid drunk? Four gin drinks and I'm merely cross the next day. Today, post-Agave, I am ready to give myself the Final Swazond to end the agony.

</boozy pain whinge>

And, what the hell -- a poll. view post

I've yet to have a hangover from any liquor, then again I've yet to try the dreaded Tequila. So...maybe just switch to triple-strength mojitos or Cuba Libres for a while? view post

I'll go back to a TRUSTED liquor, namely sweet, sweet gin. And believe me, Aldarion, you come drinking with the Xs in NYC, we will make you rue the day you were born at least once during the trip.

There's a slim chance that I might be up that way in the next few months - no guarantees, though. Depends on a female friend of mine and her travel plans, not to mention what job(s) I have by then.

But one of these days, I'll drink...slowly...to 'save myself' view post

I have had my nastiest and longest hangovers from drinking whisky with it having got to a stage where I can hardly stand to drink a sip unless its really good quality (yeah right you pretensious wanker).
I'm not really able to keep Tequila down long enough to get a hangover from it. view post

The Hangover Whinge: Why oh Why? + A Misery Poll posted 15 June 2006 in Off-Topic DiscussionThe Hangover Whinge: Why oh Why? + A Misery Poll by Curethan, Didact

Coincidence.

There was a night where all the ingredients you list above were mixed in the crucible of my body - excepting the meths (I think...) Yes, I required the potent cocktail of alcohol to dull the pain of the marathon video session. I recall with clarity the lurid colours of my vomit and the height I achieved against the kitchen wall ... or was that floor...

And verily, it provided a hangover that I cannot forget.

I asked an alcoholic for his opinion (handily I have one as a neighbour - I affectionately call him "proto-man" - when he's not listening) and he assures me that meths is the worst (could be due to the poison they put in it). He also suggested that lemon juice lessens the bad taste. view post

i've really only been drunk off tequila once (damn those mexicans!), and while i was ill, i didn;t have a hangover.

the one time i had a really bad one was when i thought it would be a good idea to drink a bottle of scotch. i had to work the next day, and there was no possibility of calling in sick. fortunately it was a used book store, sunday and winter. i only had a half dozen customers. i just sat on my stool and kept my head on the desk, only lifting it when someone walked in.

i was much better when my buddy came by and i closed the store and smoked a joint in the bathroom.

anyways, not doing that again. view post

Sympathy pains for Gierra, Curethan and Zarathustra. Oh, I have been there, all of them (except the meth, that is). Curethan and Gierra, I think I revisted my hangover just from reading your posts.

In any case: 1) I am done with the tequila forevah, 2) I'm laying low on the EtOH front for awhile, 3) Kal knows the score, for he is all-knowledgable on booze, 4) cheep whiskey will kill moose and 5) I am surprised (well, sort-of) at the LLL antipathy. LOL. Next up, Time Bandits, The Hunger and Liquid Sky! view post

i'd like to say i'm done with tequila, but my inlaws have a huge party every september, and there's these mexican guys who bring up really awesome tequila. it's so smooth and sweet. fuck. sorry that doesn;t help, does it. view post

Yeah I think thats the problem over here in Blighty (UK) we don't get good quality tequila. It probably doesn't even come from Mexico.
As I live in a city of the world; London I should go and find myself a suitable Tequila bar to sample the real stuff rather than from one of our horrible chain pubs. But then again I still want my liver to be working in 20 years time. view post

The worst hangover you can get is from mixing your liquors, especially beer and hard liquor (I'm sure you guys know the adage: liquor before beer have no fear, beer before liquor never sicker). It's my opinion, also, that the darker the drink, the harder it is on your body (never put that together until my 4 bypass surgery father-in-law was talking about his doctors orders). I've drank my ass off on rot-gut vodka and woke up fresh as a daisy. And I've woke up with hangovers from less than a six-pack. I can't stand tequilla outside of Margueritas, and I've never gotten drunk from 'em, so I have no opinion on Jose. Heh, and if you have to... it's better to use the two fingers

Meth... depends on which day after. One all nighter? No problem. Avoid sunlight until you get some sleep and eat something. A few... yeah, you might hate the world, but it's in a literal sense. *shrug* Relax, don't watch the news... maybe a bump to take the edge off. Personally, I always found MDMA worse. Mind you, this was all back in the day.

It really all comes down to the simple things. Get your fluids (as in water, milk, or real juice... avoid caffeine and too much sugar), make yourself eat something, shower and brush your teeth. *shrug* Guess you can say it's a matter of purity of essence and preserving your precious bodily fluids. view post

I will have to agree that tequila is the most vile. It must be something in the cactus they brew. I have heard however, that most of the tequile north of the border is also not very pure and maybe that accounts for all of us "los nortes" getting so violently ill.

I personally get very sick on any gin drinks, not the barf kind of sick but the instant headache sick due to being allegeric to juniper.

Other than that, yes.....mixing liqueors is very very wretched. So is not eating anything all day or being dehydrated before drinking spirits. Many of my females friends and I will avoid consuming calories before going out drinking thinking that we can fend off the dreaded "beer belly" only to find that our self-imposed-temporary-anorexia actually makes us sicker in the morning. view post

Done that. Then I got wise -- better to be a little weird shaped than to spend one's evening reeling around the NYC Subway system. view post

Oh my.. alcohol!

I rarely have a hangover (this comes from someone who really loves the bottle), the ones I do remember are when I was mixing everything with everything.. it didn't matter as long as you get wasted.

For those who like that: mix vodka with beer 50-50. 1 glass and you are wasted after a max of 30 minutes.

Fortunately after having introduced myself to some complicated texts (or maybe just coming to age) I only enjoy drinking for the taste of it, not the drinking of it. I like cognac (brady) and of course whiskey.

But I must admit, getting drunk is the best drug.. well the best affordable one view post
