A really silly observation from TDtCB about Cishaurim posted 30 May 2006 in The Warrior ProphetA really silly observation from TDtCB about Cishaurim by kalbear, Candidate

It almost should belong in TDtCB, but it deals with info about the Cishaurim we get in TWP so it bears saying here.

We know what the Cishaurim are like - they're deliberately blinded, don't have the Mark, have snakes around them to see, etc. Well, I don't think Bakker knew this when he wrote TDtCB.

Hounds, Geshrunni would tell him, now ran freely through the halls of the Scarlet Spires, trained to smell the saffron and henna the Cishaurim used to dye their robes
(TDtCB, pg 48)
Now, I might've just, say, looked for the blinded dudes with the snakes around their necks, but specially-trained hounds works too.

Seriously, is this answered anywhere else? I didn't think that the Cishaurim were capable of a glamour that would totally disguise them from anyone, even if their magic is not distinguishable to schoolmen. view post

I can't remember, but does the book endorse the precaution as a sensible one? People kill people all over the place in those books (people die to the rediculously inane regularly). It fits in amongst the rest of the madness, more than being practical deterent in any way. view post

Perhaps the hounds could catch the Cishaurim hiding behind curtains or under tables or something...out of sight of the Scarlet Spires view post

Hah. Thats awesome. To think, all the Chihaurim had to do to win was walk around with curtains and tables hiding them from view!

As for the Hounds, I agree that there would be better ways to root out the Cishaurim, but it's just a precaution I think. view post

I would assume that, as the Cishaurim bear no Mark, they could simply infiltrate the Scarlet Spires under a sorcerous disguise. Changing your face with sorcery would be a simple matter; changing your smell would not. view post

Aha, true that. I forgot that Cishaurim sorcery didn't bear the mark

Maybe I should brush up on my Three-Seas knowledge, eh? view post

I actually have no citation for that. But it makes sense, otherwise why would the Scarlet Spires use dogs to sniff them out?

Of course, they could be used to sniff out the Cishaurim equivalent of the Spires' Javreh, but why would the Cishaurim send soldiers into a sorcerous stronghold? The only way they would be effective is if they had Chorae, and that would be as big a giveaway as sending eyeless men with snakes around their necks. view post

The smell of saffron and henna would rub off on your skin. No matter how much you bathed, you would still carry the scent of it with you, which would get picked up by dogs. view post

I'm pretty sure the Scarlet Spires are just batshit paranoid. view post
