Why read fantasy? posted 12 August 2004 in Literature DiscussionWhy read fantasy? by Taliesin, Peralogue

Hmm.... hard to remember what all got me into reading fantasy. My mom used to read the Narnia books to me and my brothers at night, and I was given The Hobbit as a gift a long time ago. Basically, the combination of what my mom read to us, and other books that she had and I in turn read, plus various books that were given to me by family. And then in junior high, I discovered the Star Wars books in the school library, and really got into reading those, before eventually branching out into a lot more, partly due to a certain friend who loaned me a good many books, such as Ender's Game and The Eye of the World. In other words, I don't really know where to say my interest started, but there were many diverse influenced upon it. view post
