CLIVE BARKER.......far better than King, he's origanal, deeply disturbing, and will kick the bounds of decency square into touch.....start with his earlier stuff, the books of blood are fantastic, though also read the abarat series which is new one he's doing at the moment 2 books and counting, there aimed at children aparently, but if i had kids i wouldnt let them any where near it. to illustrate my point there as removed from children lit, as the Potter books are from decent reading <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> basically read everything he's ever done, i'm sure there's a bad one in there somewhere but i cant remember it. He did the books for Hellraiser, Candyman (which is an adaptation of a short story from the books of blood, and night wish)

James Herbet is another gud un, though a bit lighter reading and not always scary, bit cliched in parts to,,,,,,though the rats trilogy is a damn good read.

Richard Laymons done a few good books i've read cant remember the titles though and he's more a chiller writer than horror.

my friends made me read the Rice interview with a vimpire etc series to, personnally i dont like gay porn literature but if that's your thing it is a must
